No. 1 rated QB in 2022 has decommitted from Texas. Is Ohio State in play?

Ryan Day is quickly earning a reputation as a quarterback whisperer. He helped develop the likes of Dwayne Haskins, Justin Fields, and even had a hand in coaching up Joe Burrow before last year’s Heisman winner left for the Bayou of LSU.

Day has been able to land some of the top QB talent in the land, not only getting Justin Fields to choose Columbus after leaving Georgia, but signing two of the top quarterback talents of the 2020 class in Jack Miller and C.J. Stroud. He also has the No. 3 quarterback prospect in 2021, five-star Kyle McCord ready to enter the program and compete next season.

Now the second-year head coach has a chance to land the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the class of 2022. Quinn Ewers is a 6-foot 3-inch pro-style quarterback who has been on every top college program’s list. Ewers committed to Tom Herman and the Texas Longhorns in early August, but late Wednesday decided to re-open his commitment.

It’s no secret that Ohio State had been recruiting Ewers hard and most likely that recruiting didn’t stop just because he made a verbal commitment to the Longhorns. Now that Ewers has decommitted from Texas, it looks like the Buckeyes are serious contenders to land the services of the Southlake Carroll QBs services.

This would be an absolute home run for Ryan Day and the Buckeyes. We’ll wait and see if Ewers makes a call soon or takes his time to make a decision.

The only question is who will emerge as the future of the program under center with all of these options potentially on the table in the very near future?
