NL Leisure forced to axe football hires and fitness classes due to new guidelines

NL Leisure have provided an update on customers in the wake of the new Scottish Government guidelines introduced this week.

A number of new restrictions were announced by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon in the wake of rising cases of coronavirus.

Under-18 classes and programmes are excempt from the restrictions so youth classes will continue while all learn to swim lessons will go ahead.

In a statement on Twitter NL Leisure state: “No adult (18+) contact sports training, except professional sports, indoor or outdoor can take place from October 9 to 25.

“These Scottish Government restrictions mean that no football, training or games can take place from October 9.

“There are no changes from under-18s.”

The gym will operate as normal with bookings to be made through the NL Leisure app. However, all fitness classes will have to be stopped.

The online statement continues: “Following the announcement we must cancel all fitness classes from 6pm on Friday, October 9, to Sunday, October 25, with classes resuming on Monday, October 26.

“All members who solely use fitness classes will not lose out for the days that the classes are cancelled. We are currently looking into the best options to deduct this money from a future direct debit and all members who are affected will be emailed with more information in the near future.

“As a goodwill gesture and to help everyone stay fit and active over the days that fitness classes are not permitted to run, we will be offering a number of free online classes via Facebook Live.

“We understand that the temporary closure of some programmes and services is disappointing to many people but we must follow all government guidelines and rules.”

Wishaw Sports Centre is one of a handful of centres that were opened by NL Leisure.

However, other centres such as Shotts Leisure Centre, will remain closed.
