NIU tailback Keith Harris Jr. out for season

Sept. 09--Northern Illinois junior tailback Keith Harris Jr. missed the late stages of last season with an ankle injury and now a new injury has cost him the 2015 campaign and possibly his career.

Huskies coach Rod Carey said during Tuesday's weekly meeting with reporters that Harris is out for the year after an unspecified knee injury suffered in the second quarter of last Saturday's 38-30 victory over UNLV.

"We don't have official reports so I don't know specifically what the knee is, but all the opinions I'm hearing -- which (are) multiple -- says that he's done for the year," said Carey, who is also uncertain if Harris could gain a medical redshirt.

Harris, a one-time Catholic League most valuable offensive player while at Leo High School, had three carries for seven yards against the Rebels last Saturday.

The news was better for wide receiver Tommylee Lewis, who suffered an ankle injury on the Huskies opening drive against UNLV. Carey said Lewis was "day-to-day" and could be available for this Saturday's game against Murray State.

"I sure hope," Carey said. "Otherwise I'd say he's out for a week or so."

Lewis, back with the Huskies after missing most of last season with injuries, had two catches for 44 yards and one kickoff return for 17 more last Saturday.
