Cross-country skier Yoshihiro Nitta won the gold medal in the standing category of the men's cross-country 10-kilometer classic at the Pyeongchang Winter Paralympics on Saturday.

The 37-year-old Nitta, who is making his sixth Paralympic appearance since his debut in 1998 in Nagano, earned Japan's 3rd gold at the Pyeongchang Games. Nitta took silver in the sprint classical event on Wednesday.

Nitta lost his left forearm at the age of 3 and began skiing at 4. He won a bronze in the 5-kilometer classic in Salt Lake City in 2002, and golds in the 10-kilometer classical and sprint classical events at the 2010 Vancouver Games.
