Nith Inshore Rescue welcome members of the public to Glencaple base

Dumfriesshire’s voluntary lifeboat service, Nith Inshore Rescue, opened their station doors to the public on Saturday at Glencaple.

The opportunity to see inside the lifeboat station, learn about its history and marvel at the volunteers’ specialist equipment and vehicles was part of a weekend of activities in the local area organised by the Caerlaverock Community Association to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The independent lifeboat search and rescue service are always on call and wholly operated by a team of highly trained and professionally equipped volunteers to protect and save lives, and to recover loved ones from the waters for families.

These delighted youngsters took full advantage of the open day and – who knows – could be Nith Inshore Rescue volunteers of the future?
