Nith Inshore Rescue Team raises more than £1,200 with Land Rover pull

Nith Inshore Rescue team completed its gruelling sponsored Land Rover pull to Dumfries and ran up more than £1,200 from the fundraiser.

They are looking to replace the vehicle and crew member Peter Bryden organised and took part in the event on Saturday.

The volunteers pulled the Land Rover from the team’s Glencaple headquarters via Kingholm Quay to the Whitesands.

Peter said: “It took us two and a half hours to complete and it was a total of five and a half miles.

“I can say that I am feeling sore even now. There were a few steep inclines on the way but once we got on the road to Dumfries it was a bit easier.

“When we got into town the Moffat Mountain Rescue Team was there to meet us and we were really touched by that welcome and grateful.

“We have a really good relationship with them so it was a lovely gesture and nice to see.

“Everything was absolutely fine and there were no injuries.

“We had people come out of their houses on the way to make donations and there was £300 put into our collection buckets by that and from people at the side of the road. It was a great experience.”

Treasurer Gwilym Gibbons also took part and said: “It was a brilliant day.

“We are still in the process of bringing money in from sponsorship forms but at the minute we have round about £1200.

“It was brilliant to see the Moffat Mountain Rescue team there on our arrival at the Whitesands. We didn’t know they were coming and it was nice to see them welcome us and support us.

“It took some effort by everyone who took part.

“And Joanna Toohey, the committee leader, was there too with the rescue dog Tam as well at the front of the group.”

Various safety measures and a risk assessment were put in place with support from Blood Bikes who headed the procession and there were trained members of the National Escort Group along with marshalls.
