Nith Inshore Rescue Team is planning to launch a new merchandise website to raise cash for the cause.
And they have tested the water with a hoodie complete with the team’s logo.
Vice chairman Laurie Irving said: “It’s an absolutely great idea.
“The hoodies are kick-starting our merchandise which will be displayed at an online shop. This helps drum up attention and we can push on from there to help publicise the online shop which launches very soon.”
Crew member Lewis Brodie is the man behind the hoodies scheme.
He said: “The hoodies have been a project for Nith Inshore Rescue for the last six months.
“My partner and I came up with this project after visiting St Abb’s on the east coast on holiday and seeing people wearing hoodies which were supporting their independent lifeboat.

“I took the idea of creating merchandise to a committee meeting where the idea for a lifeboat supporter hoodie was approved.
“After this we got to work designing our logo and choosing a colour for our hoodie. We created a few different logo designs which we felt allowed people to show their support for our charity.
“Our hoodies have been designed so it is easy to differentiate between lifeboat crew and supporters as it is vital we can distinguish between members of the public and responding crew during a call out.”
He added: “We are currently working alongside a firm called Rostrum to create our hoodies as supporting other local businesses was important to us.
“Our hoodie design has an embroidered logo on the chest alongside a large printed logo on the back and is printed on a navy blue fabric. It is a pullover design with a front pouch pocket and access for ear phone wires. We are selling our adult size hoodies for £40 and children’s sizes for £30.
“They can also email us any orders at merchandise@nithrescue.org.uk. At the moment we are updating our website which will also have our new online shop.”
