KOZHIKODE: In a sign of job market getting back on track after the pandemic-related disruptions, the National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) has set an all-time record in campus placement in the first phase of the placement season for the graduating batch of 2022.
As many as 950 students have secured job offers in the first phase of the placement drive, which is 70% higher than the 568 students placed during the same period during 2020- 21.
Also, the institute has seen significant surge in the highest salary offered to students and in the number of companies which took part in the placement process.
Four students of the department of computer science and engineering bagged the highest salary offer of Rs 67.6 lakh per annum as opposed to the highest CTC of Rs 43 lakh last year. All the four job offers came from Traceable AI, a leading application security firm.
The average salary offered to students stands at Rs 13 lakh per annum, which is two lakh more than the Rs 11 lakh per annum last year.
Chairperson of the centre for career development, NIT-C, Dr Sajith V said that one of the key factors which helped in securing solid placements was the move by the institute to provide a two-month training programme to students during the summer vacation, anticipating demand from IT/analytics firm.
"The completely online mode of the recruitment process during the time of the pandemic was successfully leveraged by the institute. Moreover, the renewed thrust towards digitization of the activities by the firms during the pandemic could be one of the reasons for the higher job and internship opportunities for the students," he said
NIT-C also saw many first-time recruiters this year like Traceable AI, Mercedes Benz, Ola Mobility, Adani Enterprises Ltd, among others.
The placement drive will continue till June 2022.
