YOKOHAMA -- The technology that enables visitors to play virtual tennis against Naomi Osaka has become a hit attraction at a Nissan Motor Co.-run facility in Yokohama.
The tennis star's speedy 200-kph serve appears on a large screen at the Nissan Pavilion in Yokohama's Minatomirai district, employing a newly developed technology that shows the path of the serve, allowing players to experience the feeling of easily returning the shot.
"We enjoyed experiencing the new technology," said Hisatsugu Hirabayashi, a 40-year-old company employee who visited the facility from Tokyo's Setagaya Ward with his family.
"It was like playing a [video] game, and I had no trouble hitting it back," his son, Yuta 7, said with a smile.
The attraction will be available at the pavilion through Oct. 23.
There is no charge for admission, but reservations are required for the virtual matches against Osaka.
