ISEHARA, Kanagawa -- A food company in Isehara, Kanagawa Prefecture, has come up with a new way to enjoy Nissan's car designs, as spicy rice crackers in the shapes of 23 of its popular models.
Tatsuyabussan Co. got help from Nissan engineers to reproduce the cars' profiles in kaki-no-tane crackers that are 2.5 to 3.0 centimeters long. Models represented include classics such as the Datsun 12 Phaeton (1933), Skyline 2000 GT-R (1969) and Fairlady Z (1969), as well as the top-selling e-vehicle LEAF. The food company plans to sell cans of the car-shaped crackers with butter peanuts -- called kakipea -- from July 7.
Tatsuyabussan obtained cooperation from Nissan's Technical Center in reproducing the shapes of the cars and creating the can packaging, and from the Nissan Research Center for die manufacturing.
According to the company, it had to overcome the problems of expansion and contraction of the crackers in the baking process in order to convey the beautiful forms of the cars in the finished product.
The kakipea will be sold at the Nissan Technical Center and the Isehara Station tourist information center for 500, yen including tax.
