Nissan Motor Co. released a statement on Tuesday saying that former Chairman Carlos Ghosn's escape to Beirut was "extremely regrettable" and "defies Japan's judicial system."
This is the first time for the carmaker to make an official announcement regarding Ghosn's flight.
The statement said that Nissan's internal investigation had discovered various acts of misconduct by Ghosn, including misreporting his compensation and misappropriation of company assets for his personal benefit. "The consequences of Ghosn's misconduct have been significant," it said.
"The company will continue to take appropriate legal action to hold Ghosn accountable for the harm that his misconduct has caused to Nissan," the company said.
