Mowgli founder Nisha Katona revealed she lost her cousin this week as coronavirus continues to rage across India.
Nisha appeared on This Morning from her home in Wirral and said that the feeling in the country was "completely apocalyptic."
Nisha said she'd lost her cousin and that on the streets of India there was an "abject fear".
This Morning chef Nisha said: "You cant lock down in the same way that you can here.
"Just trying to protect yourserlf from this virus is impossible and there is this sense of powerlessness.
"I spoke to my auntie last night and she said 'you have two choices, to die of hunger or to die of covid', if you don't go out and work, you don't eat.
"The virus is rife, its everywhere, there is no furlough they have no choice, if you want to feed your children you have to go out."
Nisha admitted that there had been some vaccine hesitancy among the population but that now people were "clamouring" for the vaccine.
She also said the population of the country are incredibly grateful for the aid sent by the UK and other countries.
She said: " My family are saying they know there is international aid and it means the world to them, it resonates with people out there."
But Nisha warned: "Whatever happens out there will come back to bite us here."
