Nir Bitton 'targeted' for Celtic exit as Maccabi Tel Aviv set to test Parkhead transfer resolve

Celtic star Nir Bitton could be set for a summer exit as it's reported he's a transfer target for Maccabi Tel Aviv.

The 29-year-old moved to Parkhead in the summer of 2013 and has won 16 trophies including becoming a Premiership champion seven times.

The Israel international can play both at centre-back and in the middle of midfield and has racked up more than 200 appearances for Celtic.

According to the Scottish Sun though he's being lined up for a return to his homeland, with Maccabi Tel Aviv weighing up a summer transfer movee.

Bitton has two years left on his contract and would not be allowed to leave on the cheap but with a rebuild likely after this season a deal may be done.

His compatriot Hatem Elhamed is ready to complete a move this month as he nears a return to Hapoel Be'er Sheva.

The right-back has struggled to adapt to life in Scotland, with his family still at home in Israel during the coronavirus pandemic.

Manager Neil Lennon explained: "Hatem was going through a really difficult time. His wife and son were back in Israel and he was here on his own.

“He was struggling with life away from the training ground and stadium.

“We have to take into consideration the human factor on that. I wouldn't say he was suffering from depression but he was very low.

“So we've made the right decision for him and the club.”
