Nir Bitton 'targeted' for Celtic exit as Maccabi Tel Aviv plan summer move

Celtic star Nir Bitton has emerged as a target for Israeli giants Maccabi Tel Aviv, according to a report.

The versatile defender has spent eight years at the club and has a contract until the summer of 2023.

But he could join a host of players set to leave in the summer with Maccabi Tel Aviv looking to bring him in.

The Scottish Sun say the Israeli champions want to take him back to his homeland for a Champions League push next season.

But they’ll have to spend big with Celtic unwilling to let him go cheaply, because he’s still big part of Neil Lennon’s squad.

He’s been in and out of the team recently and spent the last two games out of the side with Stephen Welsh and Kristoffer Ajer selected instead.

Celtic are also set to lose Hatem Elhamed in the coming days with the right back set to join Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

Lennon revealed he had failed to settle at Celtic Park with his family still in Israel during the global pandemic.

He said: "Hatem Elhamed might be going back to Israel. A fee has been agreed so I’m not sure it’s been finalised yet.

"He’s really struggled, his wife and young son are back in Israel and he’s been through a really rough time of it mentally rather than anything else so for his well-being and he really wanted to go home so that deal is going to come to fruition today or tomorrow."
