Nir Bitton in shock Celtic red card as defender rages at Midtjylland dive to earn second booking

Celtic utility man Nir Bitton was shown a bizarre red card after a moment of madness in the crucial Champions League qualifier first leg.

Bitton was deployed at centre-back by Ange Postecoglou as he looked to partner an experienced head alongside Stephen Welsh.

However, the Israel cap failed to repay the new Celtic manager after reacting to a dive from Midtjylland man Anders Dreyer.

While the referee appear to clearly be avoiding pointing to the penalty spot for the tumble in the box, Bitton petulantly pushed his rival and put his finger in the face of the opponent.

After already being on a booking, referee Sandro Schärer produced the second yellow despite the theatrics of the Danish attacker.

Former Hoops man Chris Sutton didn't hold back with his reaction to the incident stating: "It's ridiculous.

"Why Bitton then reacts I couldn't tell you? He's an experienced player. It's a second yellow and he's put the team under pressure when they were in a position of comfort."

However, replay's did show that Dreyer was offside when chasing the ball down, which was not caught by the linesman.
