Nir Bitton adds to Celtic Covid problems as Hoops star ruled out of Rangers clash with positive test

Celtic star Nir Bitton has tested positive for Covid-19.

And that means the Israeli defender is OUT of next week's Old Firm clash against Rangers at Parkhead.

Bitton didn't travel back to Tel Aviv with his national team after their penalty shoot-out defeat to Scotland at Hampden in midweek.

The 28-year-old is nursing an ankle injury and stayed in Glasgow in a bid to be fit for Neil Lennon's side on Saturday.

However, Bitton will be absent as he self-isolates after returning the positive test on Friday.

At the moment, Mailsport understands his Hoops team-mate Hatem Abd Elhamed HASN'T been identified as a close contact of Bitton and will play for Israel in their Nations League games against Czech Republic and Slovakia this week.

The right-back has spent the international break alongside Bitton in the Israeli bubble, which included a flight into Glasgow last week.

The problems are piling up for Celtic gaffer Lennon ahead of the Old Firm game.

Ryan Christie is already out, due to being a close contact of Stuart Armstrong, who contracted Covid in the Scotland camp.

And star striker Odsonne Edouard is still in France after testing positive while away with their U21 side.

He isn't due back in the UK until Friday, just 24 hours before they take on Gers.
