Nipsey Hussle dead: Rapper due to give talk on gang violence hours before he was shot dead

Rapper Nipsey Hussle was supposed to be meeting with police chiefs hours before Nipsey Hussle dead: Rapper, 33, dies after being shot outside LA clothes store .

The 33-year-old Grammy Award nominee, real name Ermias Asghedom, was pronounced dead on arrival at hospital after a shooting outside Marathon Clothing store - which he owned - in south LA on Sunday afternoon.

Tragically, Nipsey was due to meet with the LAPD on Monday to discuss ways to help vulnerable teens stay away from gang-related crime.

Steve Soboroff, the LA Police Commissioner, tweeted late last night to say: "We ( LAPDChiefMoore and I ) were meeting , at the request of NipseyHussle with him and rocnation tomorrow at 4pm to talk about ways he could help stop gang violence and help us help kids. I’m so very sad."

He added: ." NipseyHussle RIP sir. Many of us will join together to stop what ever caused your, and so many other tragic unnecessary killings."

Nipsey, who grew up in gangs, had tweeted just hours before his shooting a message that now seems particularly poignant.

"Having strong enemies is a blessing," he wrote.

Two other people were injured in the shooting and were taken to the hospital along with the rapper, but are both understand to be in non-life threatening conditions.

Just last year, Nipsey gave a heartbreaking interview to the LA Times about growing up surrounded by death and violence.

"I grew up in gang culture. We dealt with death, with murder. It was like living in a war zone, where people die on these blocks and everybody is a little bit immune to it," he said.

"I guess they call it post-traumatic stress, when you have people that have been at war for such a long time. I think LA suffers from that because it's not normal yet we embrace it like it is after a while."

As yet, no arrests have been made in Nipsey's killing.
