SEATTLE _ Nintendo is diving deep into the well of nostalgia.
First, Pokemon Go proved an early success, especially with those who remember loving the Pokemon games of the '90s. Now, the Japanese game maker is releasing a mini-entertainment system packed with retro games.
The mini Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, looks much like the company's original system from decades past, except it's smaller and more modern. The mini NES will use an HDMI cord to plug into a TV and comes with 30 games loaded _ no cartridge required.
"We wanted to give fans of all ages the opportunity to revisit Nintendo's original system and rediscover why they fell in love with Nintendo in the first place," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America president, in a statement.
Nintendo, which has its U.S. headquarters outside Seattle, has struggled in recent years to keep up with the growing popularity of mobile gaming spurred on by its competitors. But the company has received a boost as Pokemon Go downloads soar.
Nintendo's stock jumped 25 percent Monday, and was trading up nearly 16 percent Thursday.
The mini NES will be available Nov. 11 for $59.99. The system has throwback games such as Bubble Bobble, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros.
