Since it was released back in 2017, the Nintendo Switch has become one of the most popular gaming consoles on the market.
Now, more than two years after the original console was released, Nintendo has unveiled a new version, called Nintendo Switch Lite.
The console is a compact, lightweight version of the Nintendo Switch, but can only be played in handheld mode.
Like the original Nintendo Switch, the Lite console feature a large central screen, with buttons on either side.
However, while these side panels are removable on the Nintendo Switch and can be used as joysticks, the side panels are fixed on the Lite version.
In a statement about the Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo explained: “Nintendo Switch Lite has integrated controls and is smaller than the flagship version of Nintendo Switch.
“It has no kickstand and, as a dedicated handheld gaming device, does not support video output to a TV.”
Thankfully, despite this, the new device can play all games in the Nintendo Switch library that support handheld mode.
Best of all, the Nintendo Switch comes with a very pocket-friendly price tag of $199.99 (UK pricing remains unclear). This is significantly cheaper than the Nintendo Switch, which cost $299.99 at launch.
The Nintendo Switch Lite console launches on 20th September and will be available in three different colours: yellow, grey and turquoise.
