Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are ongoing in the US and UK, and although US retailers don't have the best availability right now, the situation in the UK seems to be calming down slightly. Today, I've seen stock a Currys, Smyths, and ShopTo, and unlike the last few weeks, pre-orders aren't vanishing within seconds of them going live at one retailer or another. Unfortunately, stock of the console on its own is uncommon, so you may need to spend a little more to get a bundle.
Invites from Nintendo were supposedly sent out to US customers yesterday to pre-order a console straight from the source, but other retailers are looking pretty exhausted of their supply in the meantime. Of course, accessories are another thing, and as difficult as it is to secure a Switch 2 pre-order right now, the controllers, webcam, and other peripherals are more steadily available. There are also games to think about, even if many of them will just be a code in a box.
Today, I'll be focusing on hunting down Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders at all the big retailers, looking out for bundles, accessories, games, and giving you as much pre-ordering advice as I can. I've been covering some of the biggest hardware launches of the last few years, so I know the places to look, the stuff to avoid, and the top tips for securing stock.

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will be available today

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are finally showing up at the official US store this week. That means if you're a dedicated Online member and meet Ninty's invite criteria, you'll be able to grab a console straight from the source. If you haven't already registered your details with the My Nintendo Store, you'll want to get on that ASAP, and those of you who've already prepared will want to keep a steady eye on your inbox.
To actually qualify for a Switch 2 pre-order invite, you'll have to be over 18 years of age, have a Nintendo Online membership that's been active for over 12 months, and have 50 hours of playtime registered since April 2. That should be enough for a magic link to grace your inbox, although initial invites were sent out yesterday. Either way, check your spam and promotion folders just in case, as one of these emails will let you buy a handheld straight from Nintendo rather than waiting for third-party retailers to stock up.
There is a big caveat when it comes to official Switch 2 stock, though, as Nintendo says launch day delivery isn't guaranteed. The sooner you jump on a pre-order link, the better your chances will be of a June 5 ETA, but it looks like the company is preparing to have a huge backorder list. This isn't unlike the situation with Valve's Steam Deck when it first launched, and we could be in a situation where order trickle out of the warehouse and to your door.
Will other retailers launch more Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders before release day?

If you don't want to leave your fate in the hands of Nintendo, it's worth checking out some other retailers as well. I would be surprised if we didn't see any more waves of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders at stores like Walmart, Best Buy, and GameStop before that June 5 launch day. We've still got a month to go before the handheld officially drops, and considering how frequently I saw new waves of PS5 and Xbox Series X stock drop in between pre-order and release, I'm expecting more to arrive before then.
We could be in for one more major drop, as retailers in both the US and UK receive new allocations from Ninty itself. That could be towards the tail end of the week, now that Nintendo has sent out invites to pre-order from its own store.
When does the Nintendo Switch 2 launch?

There's officially less than a month until release day, as the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch on June 5, 2025, worldwide. On the big day, two different versions of the upcoming handheld will be available, the standard console for console for $450 / £395.99, and a Mario Kart World bundle available for $499.99 / £429.99.
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Nintendo Switch 2 Edition), The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (Nintendo Switch 2 Edition), Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, Split Fiction, Yakuza 0 Director's Cut, and Deltarune are among just some of the games which will be available from day one. A long list of first-party accessories is also launching on June 5, which includes the official Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller, Switch 2 camera, and everything from cases to a spare AC adaptor for charging.
Live updates
ShopTo has Nintendo Switch 2 in stock
ShopTo has woken us all up after a sleep Bank Holiday, with a new round of Nintendo Switch 2 bundles on the shelves. You'll find the Stealth Premium Travel Kit and the Nintendo Switch 2 Camera included in this bundle, alongside the handheld itself, though there's no Mario Kart World available.
You're paying £465.85 in total here, which checks out value-wise.

Walmart has re-listed the Nintendo Switch 2

Things got a bit hairy last week, when Walmart removed the Nintendo Switch 2 from its listings completely. Thankfully, the handheld is back in business now, with both the Mario Kart bundle and solo handheld listed on the site. Stock isn't available right now, but it's a start at least.
ShopTo is out of stock
That Nintendo Switch 2 bundle held out for around half an hour at ShopTo, but it's now fully out of stock. I'd keep in touch with this retailer, it's obviously drip-feeding its supplies over a longer period of time and you'll want to be in position when the next bundle arrives. However, Amazon has also been running its own ad-hoc drops over the last week as well.
Reminder: Nintendo's own pre-orders will go live this week

Nintendo will send its own invites out on May 8, which means there's another chance at Switch 2 pre-orders just two days away. You'll need to be a Nintendo Account holder to be in with a shot here, and priority will be given to those who have had a Switch Online membership for more than 12 months (and it's currently active now) with over 50 total gameplay hours logged.
We could see more Switch 2 pre-orders after May 8

While things have been quiet recently, I'm still fully expecting another round of Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders to hit before that June 5 launch date. I'm putting my bet on either later this week or at the start of next week. Either way, it will likely be after Ninty pushes its own stock on May 8.
If retailers are going to get another allocation of handhelds, it will be after Nintendo has sold its own. I don't know whether stores will be looking for another wave right when those email invites are being sent out or if they're still waiting for more handhelds from the brand itself, but things could move fast once Ninty's out of the picture.
Will Nintendo release more pre-orders in the UK this week?
With US invites set to go out later this week, many may be wondering if Ninty will take the opportunity to send more emails to its UK stock-hunters. Put simply, I'd be surprised if it did.
We've seen emails in different regions landing at different times throughout the pre-order process, and they haven't affected UK stock levels at all. Not only that, but with supply seemingly not meeting demand right now, it's unlikely Nintendo UK is sitting on additional unsold stock.
Best Buy still has Nintendo Switch 2 accessories for pre-order

While Walmart's Nintendo Switch 2 accessories remain unavailable, Best Buy still has a bunch on the shelves. Between the Pro Controller and Camera, the store even has officially licensed memory cards on the shelves. While some smaller gadgets are unavailable, you're covered for all the main ones here.

Where to pre-order Donkey Kong Bananza

Donkey Kong Bananza isn't a launch title, in fact it's slated for a July 17 release. However, it is one of the more popular Nintendo Switch 2 games available for pre-order right now. The 3D platformer is widely available in the US and UK for $69.99 / £64.99, though I'd recommend opting for Walmart (for the slightly lower price) or Very (for the speedy delivery).

PSA: Keep checking Amazon in the UK
Amazon has been stealth-dropping a few Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders at a time in the UK over the course of the last week. While these have been incredibly fast-moving, I have stumbled upon a couple of drops from my own stock checks in that time, so they're frequent enough to keep checking for.

Is Walmart gearing up for more stock?

Walmart recently killed all of its Nintendo Switch 2 listings, but they have now returned to the shelves. That could mean more stock is on its way, and I'm 95% sure that there is, but there's just one line on this page that's concerning me.
Rather than just listing the Nintendo Switch 2 as 'Coming Soon', Walmart has added the release date to its messaging. That could well mean the retailer doesn't currently have plans to add more pre-orders to its site ahead of that June 5 date. That would suggest the new pages are simply holding slots for when the console officially launches.

Amazon is still radio silent in the US
Save for a few third party games, now including Star Wars Outlaws that wasn't there last week, Amazon is still silent on Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders this week. With no listing pages live on the site it looks like the retailer really is sitting this one out.
Where to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case

I've had a hunt around, but there are very few Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case pre-orders available in the US right now. Walmart, Best Buy, and GameStop are all out of stock, but Target still have the sleeve up for grabs at $39.99.
Meanwhile, things are running a little easier in the UK right now. A number of retailers have the official carry case on the shelves, but only Very seems to be offering low-cost release day delivery.
Nintendo Switch 2 Carry Case | $39.99 at Target | £20.99 at Very
Where to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller

If you're going for the full gamepad experience from day one, you'll want to get your hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller ahead of time. In the US, I'd recommend heading over to Best Buy. While Walmart was knocking 99 cents off the price, it's now out of stock, but the yellow-label store has gamepads on the shelves with release day pickup available. Over in the UK, Very is your best bet. This store has consistently held its stock and offers launch day delivery as well.

Don't want to shell out for a new controller? Here's some good news

Of course, if you don't want to spend on a brand new controller it's worth noting that you can still use your existing Switch 1 gamepads on the new model. Ninty has confirmed that both original Joy-Con and the classic Pro Controller work with the Switch 2 (though only where the new Joy-Con 2 features aren't needed).
It's also likely that existing third party gamepads will work with Switch 2 if they feature a dedicated Nintendo Switch mode. Capcom and 8BitDo have both confirmed that their controllers will be compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2, so it's likely other brands' models will as well. You can save a good chunk of change by opting for one of the best Nintendo Switch controllers instead of grabbing one of Ninty's more premium gamepads ahead of launch. Just note that Joy-Con alternatives that work using the older rail connection method will become obsolete. I've dropped a few of my favorites just below:
Nintendo Switch Pro Controller | $69 at Amazon | £49.95 at Amazon
PDP Faceoff Deluxe+ | $39.40 at Amazon | £19.16 at Amazon
Star Wars Outlaws Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders are now available

While I'm still waiting for stock to pop up in the UK, Star Wars Outlaws on Nintendo Switch 2 has appeared at Amazon. The $59.99 title will launch on September 4, including the full Gold Edition treatment. It's also worth noting that this is a Game-Key Card that will need a full download before playing.
Star Wars Outlaws | $59.99 at Amazon
More games have been added to Amazon's Nintendo Switch 2 roster
It's not just Star Wars Outlaws now on the shelves, Hitman: World of Assassination Signature Edition, Yakuza 0: Director's Cut, and Sonic X Shadow Generations have also been listed for pre-order at Amazon. What's more, these are all launch day titles!
Hitman: World of Assassination Signature Edition | $59.99 at Amazon
Yakuza 0: Director's Cut | $49.94 at Amazon
Sonic X Shadow Generations | $49.99 at Amazon
Should you buy the Mario Kart World bundle?

Whether we get another shot at Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders or we hold out until launch day, it's well worth grabbing the Mario Kart World bundle instead of the handheld by itself. This is a premium game, clocking in at $79.99 / £74.99 by itself, but Nintendo is only charging an additional $50 / £34 for the title in the bundle.
That means you're saving $30 / £40 compared to the game's full price, and you're not going to find another launch day title with this level of Switch 2 feature goodness for that kind of cash.
Best Buy Plus or Total members get a $20 bonus reward when pre-ordering Nintendo Switch 2 games and accessories... but there's a catch
Best Buy is offering its Plus and Total members a $20 gift card when they buy $150 worth of select games and accessories, with up to $100 up for grabs if you're truly going all out. You'll need to spend $750 to get the full $100 reward, which is going to be pretty difficult to do considering the offer excludes "all Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch hardware."
The store is linking to a selection of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories from this offer page, so I would be surprised if that exemption included official Ninty gadgets as well as the actual consoles. Just remember you'll need to be signed into your My Best Buy account before making your purchases to be eligible for the gift card bonus.
$20 bonus reward for every $150 spent on Switch 2 games and gadgets at Best Buy
Top Tip: It's cheaper to buy Breath of the Wild for Switch 1 and upgrade later

Nintendo is offering a $10 / £8 upgrade to the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so that those who already own the game don't need to spend the full $69 / £64.99 on the same game. The thing is, you can already pick up a copy of the original game for $51.95 / £44.99. That means you're saving money even with the upgrade cost attached.

We're back!
Another day, another chance to hopefully get a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order in the bag.
Things have been fairly quiet this week, but today marks just one more sleep until those of you in the US have a change to get an official Switch 2 pre-order invite straight from Nintendo.
If you don't quite meet the criteria set out by Ninty, don't fret. As I'm here to let you know about any and all Switch 2 pre-order stock drops in the US, and the UK, so you hopefully won't miss out come June 5.
US Nintendo pre-order invites drop tomorrow

Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order stock may be quiet this morning, but for all of you in the US, remember that tomorrow is finally May 8! That means, it's finally time for Ninty to drop those official pre-order invites.
The invites won't go out to just anybody, mind. You'll have to meet their strict criteria in order to expect one in the first place. Which includes being a Nintendo Account holders in the U.S. and Canada who is at least 18 years old, having a minimum of 12 months of paid NSO membership, and having a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2025.
If you tick all those boxes, keep an eye on your email inbox tomorrow!
There's less than a month to go until the Switch 2 launch

Can you believe it?
There are only 29 days until the release of one of the most highly anticipated consoles of all time. It feels like only yesterday that we all watched that first Nintendo Direct video in January, excited to see the first official look at the new handheld.
Remember, though, just because you have your pre-order in the bag doesn't mean you'll get it on launch day. Even the most well-known of retailers can have delays, so you might have to wait an extra day or two to get yours.
ShopTo is out of Switch 2 pre-orders, but there's still time to grab the new Pro controller

ShopTo might not have any Switch 2 pre-order stock left from its surprise drop yesterday, but it does have plenty of accessories to grab, including the new Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controller.
If you were a fan of the first Pro Controller, then you'll be in for a treat, as this new iteration has had some upgrades. The new gamepad features the all-new upgraded HD rumble, the new 'C' button to activate GameChat, and two new remappable GL and GR back buttons. Better yet, it keeps that comfortable ergonomic shape of the OG Switch version, and it can still read the data from your amiibo figures and cards.

UK Nintendo fans, there's still time to grab those new Amiibo cards

Right now, you can grab the Street Fighter 6 amiibo card starter set for £24.99, which includes 6 amiibo cards to use alongside the new Switch 2 version of the game. So far, I've only spotted this on the official UK Nintendo storefront, but I'll keep an eye on any US listings if you're eager to grab this latest wave of NFC-integrated collectible cards.

There's no shortage of Nintendo Switch 2 cases

The Nintendo Switch 2 isn't even out yet, but there's already a ton of official and third-party cases available to pre-order for the upcoming handheld. I always advocate for grabbing any type of case as soon as possible, especially if you're super clumsy like I am.
There's nothing worse than spending a ton on a brand-new bit of flashy tech, only for it to break days later. With a case, you can protect not just your new Switch 2, but even get extra storage for some games, cables, and other accessories.
US Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order stock check-in

We're already a couple of hours into the day (at least for me anyway, plenty of you in the US will likely still be asleep), so let's see how pre-order stock is ticking along today.
As you can guess, it's well, quiet. There haven't been any major drops, may that be on Walmart, Best Buy, or Target. That's not a huge surprise, as it's likely to be pretty scarce until tomorrow.
Remember, May 8 marks Nintendo finally sending out its Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invites to those lucky enough to tick all their criteria boxes. So if you don't find a Switch 2 to grab today, there's always tomorrow.

TheGameCollection joins the fray - Switch 2 pre-orders back in stock
It's all happening, and while the official Nintendo UK storefront has just dropped some more Switch 2 pre-order stock, so has TheGameCollection.
You will be popped into a queue, which, as of testing, says I have at least 26 minutes to go until I have a chance to pre-order a Switch 2 myself. (I already have one, I just wanted to see what was up for you guys.)

Want a Nintendo Switch 2 from TheGameCollection? You gotta be patient

If you're excited for the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order stock that's just dropped at TheGameCollection, hold your horses. Once you try and access the UK retailer's site, you will have to wait in a queue before you can grab your own.
That may be annoying, but after testing this twice now, it actually only takes about 5 minutes, rather than whatever it tells you on screen.

Nintendo UK still has Switch 2 pre-order stock!

Honestly, I thought it'd take a matter of minutes for the Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders to be all snatched up, but so long as you're signed into your Nintendo Switch Online account in the UK, you can grab the standard console or the Mario Kart World bundle right now.

I thought today would be a quiet one, especially as tomorrow (May 8) is when the US Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invites will be sent out to all those who meet Nintendo's strict criteria. However, the UK has been the place to be for pre-orders, with stock available at both the official UK Nintendo website and TheGameCollection.

TheGameCollection Switch 2 pre-order stock isn't what you think

It's great that TheGameCollection has any Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order stock available, don't get me wrong. But if you saw me mention the price in an earlier post and were confused, that's because the standard and Mario Kart World bundles have long since sold out at TheGameCollection.
As of typing, they only have their own exclusive bundle available to pre-order, which includes not just the Mario Kart World bundle version of the console, but a copy of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Hitman World of Assassination - Signature Edition, the official carrying case and screen protector set, and the Samsung microSD 256GB express card.
It's a bit of a bummer, as it does drive up the price pretty considerably. However, if you wanted to grab some games and accessories anyway, then this has pretty much all you need.

I'm trying desperately not to pre-order the Switch 2 GameCube controller, but it's hard

So far, I've managed to avoid purchasing any of the Nintendo Classics controllers via the Nintendo website. But the second I first laid eyes on the GameCube controller, I knew my bank would be in trouble.
I adore the GameCube and still own mine, along with my many official controllers from my teen years. So the nostalgia is fueling my want for this stunning peripheral. It looks almost like the real deal, but this iteration is even better as it's wireless, and can be used to play the upcoming GameCube NSO game catalogue on the Switch 2 - which is undoubtedly going to be the first thing I play when the console launches on June 5.
Remember, you need to be logged into your Nintendo account to pre-order the controller, and it's only available through the Nintendo site for paying Nintendo Switch Online members.

The UK has Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders a-plenty today!
If you're in the UK, you've got a few options when it comes to buying a Nintendo Switch 2 today!
You can go directly to the source and pre-order the Switch 2 from the official Nintendo website. Right now, both the standard console and the Mario Kart World bundle are available, you just need to make sure you're logged into your Nintendo account before you click that shiny 'add to cart' button.
If you have a little more cash to spare, for £624.95 you can pre-order the Switch 2, along with two games, the official carrying case, and a Samsung 256GB microSD express card from TheGameCollection, too.

The new Switch 2 amiibo are nice, but don't forget that Nintendo re-stocks older releases

The brand-new Legend of Zelda Switch 2 amiibo are some of the best-looking bits of Nintendo merch, but if you have any of the collectible NFC figures missing from your collection besides the latest releases, be sure to regularly check in with the UK and US Nintendo store.
Nintendo regularly restocks some of the older amiibos, which is how I've managed to build up my collection without resorting to resellers. For example, the Sora (Smash Bros Ultimate) amiibo, which is one of my favorites out of the whole lot, is back in stock. He's wearing his iconic outfit from the first Kingdom Hearts game, and you can grab it for £12.99 at the Nintendo UK store, right now.
Thanks to Nintendo keeping the NFC-reading tech for the Switch 2, you'll be able to tap Sora on your right Joy-Con 2 controller and use his data in Smash Bros Ultimate just like on the original Switch.
US Switch 2 pre-orders might be quiet, but remember it all kicks off tomorrow

I know I've been posting a lot of UK Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order info, but honestly, that's simply because the US hasn't seen any significant drops so far today. That's not to say it won't happen, as I'm surprised that the UK Nintendo store and TheGameCollection even had drops of their own.
But just because it's quiet in the US right now, doesn't mean we won't see some big retailers surprise us later in the day. More importantly, tomorrow is when Nintendo finally hands out its official Switch 2 pre-order invites, so there will be a chance to grab one then if you tick all of their pre-order criteria boxes.
To be in with a chance to get a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invite tomorrow (May 8), you must have a minimum of 12 months of a paid NSO membership and have a minimum of 50 total gameplay hours, as of April 2, 2025. And of course, be a US or Canadian resident that's at least 18 years of age!
TheGameCollection Switch 2 pre-order bundle is still in stock!

Yes, that's right. Somehow TheGameCollection still has that exlusive Switch 2 bundle, that comes with the Mario Kart World bundle version of the console, a copy of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Hitman World of Assassination - Signature Edition, the official carrying case and screen protector set, and the Samsung microSD 256GB express card in stock right now.
I don't think that'll be the case in a few hours, so if you have the extra cash to spare and were already looking at grabbing some games and accessories from day one, go check it out.

Finally got your Switch 2 pre-order sorted? Why not grab some games

It's all very well and good having your Switch 2 pre-order, but what do you actually plan on playing with your new bit of Ninty tech? Fortunately, it is backwards compatible, so if you already have a huge digital library and physical game carts, you'll already have plenty to play.
But those itching to play actual Switch 2 games on their Switch 2 can instead pre-order a wide range of games, ranging from Donkey Kong Bananza, to Super Mario Party Jamboree – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Jamboree TV.

PSA - Make sure to check your Nintendo Online account is active

While popping onto the Nintendo UK website to check that new Switch 2 pre-order stock that dropped, I experienced something pretty strange. Nintendo listed my NSO membership as "inactive" despite the fact I'm part of a paying, family account.
Fortunately, I resolved the problem fairly quickly, by simply turning on my Switch and ensuring I had downloaded the latest OS update.
This is fairly important to do anyway, especially if you want to transfer your saves and data over to the Switch 2 at launch. But, if you want to pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2, or accessories like the NSO exclusive GameCube controller, please ensure you're not marked down as 'inactive' too.
There's still time to pre-order some extra Switch 2 storage

Not picked up a microSD Express card yet for your Switch 2?
Don't fret, there's still plenty of time (well, 29 days to be exact) to pre-order some extra storage until the console releases on June 5. Right now, there are two officially licensed models available from SanDisk and Samsung, but they're only in sizes of 256GB.
The official cards are currently out of stock at US retailers like Walmart, but be sure to check out the official US Nintendo website tomorrow (May 8) when pre-order invites are sent out. Just like the UK site, a ton of first-party accessories, including the official microSD Express Cards, are sure to be available to pre-order straight from Ninty itself.

UK Switch 2 stock is going fast today

As of typing, TheGameCollection Switch 2 bundle, which dropped earlier today, is now sold out in the UK. If you weren't quick enough to get one of your own, you can still pre-order the Switch 2 through the official Nintendo website; however, only the standard console is still in stock for now.
Remember, you will also need to be signed into your Nintendo account and have an active paid Nintendo Switch Online membership in order to pre-order.

TheGameCollection still has a Switch 2 bundle up for pre-order
As soon as I swore the page sound 'out of stock' there's still one Switch 2 bundle available at TheGameCollection. Right now, you can purchase the Mario Kart World bundle version of the console, a copy of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition and Hitman World of Assassination - Signature Edition, the official carrying case and screen protector set, and a Samsung microSD 256GB express card all in one.
The site states that they have "limited, sporadic Nintendo Switch 2 console availability" but you can also sign up to their mailing list, to be kept up to date with the latest Switch 2 pre-order stock drops.

There's still standard Switch 2 pre-orders available from Nintendo UK

With the Mario Kart World bundle already gone, I don't expect today's stock of the standard console to be around for much longer. But if you're just tuning in with me today, so long as you have a Nintendo account and a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership, you can grab one of your own right now.

I just pre-ordered my first Switch 2 amiibo, but one is not enough

I finally gave in and grabbed one of the new Legend of Zelda amiibo figures coming to the Switch 2 (and original Switch) next month. Of course, I went with my boy Sidon, one of the coolest Zora characters the entire franchise has to offer. But even with 29 days to go until launch day, I have a feeling I might end up ordering Yunobo, Riju, and Tulin too.
If you love yourself some Nintendo merch, and by extension, amiibo figures, you can pre-order the Legend of Zelda figures right now. Just don't mind me if I'm super jealous if you grab them all before me.

US Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invites are closer than ever

If you're based in the US and have been holding out for the official Switch 2 pre-order invites, tomorrow is your lucky day. Ninty will be sending out invites to the email inboxes of the lucky few who meet their strict criteria on a first-come, first-served basis.
I've been regularly reminding you of what the criteria is, but if you're dropping by for the first time, in order to receive a Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order invite, you must:
- be at least 18 years of age
- have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months
- have at least 50 total gameplay hours (as of April 2, 2025)
Walmart is selling out of Nintendo Switch 2 accessories

If you prefer to get your shopping done at Walmart, and still want to grab some Nintendo Switch 2 accessories, I recommend getting in there quick. The US retailer has already run out of stock on items like the HORI Piranha Plant camera, the official AC adapter, and even the pricey All-In-One carrying case.

Aaaaand they're gone

As we approach the end of the UK day (at least, the working day) both the Mario Kart World bundle and the standard Nintendo Switch are out of stock on the Nintendo UK website.
I'm actually surprised either of them lasted this long, if I'm honest. Especially with how sparse any Switch 2 pre-order stock is across the biggest UK retailers. However, I'm glad that Ninty was able to spare some today, especially for anyone who missed the previous stock drops.
If you didn't manage to catch either, you can still get a Switch 2 as part of a bundle at TheGameCollection. It's a lot pricier than pre-ordering just the Switch 2 or the Mario Kart World bundle version, but it's better than nothing.
If you don't have the cash to spare, though, please don't put yourself out. Remember, if Nintendo UK was able to surprise us with some Switch 2's today, it's bound to happen again soon!
Pre-order the Nintendo Switch 2 for £624.95 at TheGameCollection
TheGameCollection's Switch 2 is still in stock
Good morning! It looks like TheGameCollection's Mario Kart Switch 2 bundle is holding strong. So, if you're in the UK and have the funds for an extra-large bundle of games and accessories, you'll want to go check it out. It's not ideal since you'll be paying well over MSRP thanks to all the extras, but it's still an option right now.

Prep for official Switch 2 pre-order invites today

Today is the day Nintendo will send official Switch 2 pre-order invites to qualifying players' inboxes. If you already know for a fact that you meet the criteria, you'll want to keep a close eye on a magic link finally arriving that will let you log in and add a console to your cart.
However, if you're not quite sure if you actually qualify, you'll want to run through the following checklist to save yourself from disappointment:
- be at least 18 years of age
- have purchased a Nintendo Switch Online membership with a minimum of 12 months
- have at least 50 total gameplay hours (as of April 2, 2025)
The system is running on a "first-come, first-served" basis, so you will want to jump on any invite links straight away. You'll also want to turn your OG Switch on and potentially let it update, and I'd even jump into a game just to be safe. That could potentially help remind Nintendo that you are an active player, especially if you've not picked up the handheld for a bit.

Will Amazon ever get Switch 2 stock in the US?
If you've been constantly refreshing Amazon in search for Switch 2 pre-orders, you're probably wondering what the deal is at this stage. After all, it's one of the biggest retailers on the planet that normally has consoles ready ahead of launch, but Nintendo's relationship with the online giant is a little iffy these days.
The TLDR is this - Amazon likely won't have Switch 2 stock until after launch. Even then, it'll likely show up via third-party sellers, as that's the case for even the older OLED, Lite, and OG models at the site right now. I'll still be keeping an eye out for listings, but I'd largely focus on grabbing the handheld at an official retail partner like GameStop, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, or jumping on a pre-order invite direct from Nintendo.
I've already got big summer plans for my Switch 2, and they involve a portable monitor

I'm maybe getting ahead of myself, but the Switch 2 and Mario Kart World are set to arrive just in time for the summer. I'm a big sucker for embracing those lighter nights outside having a few cold ones with friends, and I've decided that adding Ninty's handheld into the mix will make for some great garden parties. Rather than having everyone crowd around the console's built-in display, though, I'll be using a portable monitor to create a setup that'll be perfect for some multiplayer races.
At the moment, there are two contenders I'm considering for the job. The first is an extremely affordable 15.6-inch KYY portable monitor that's cheaper than a Switch 2 game at Amazon. The second is an extra-large 24.5-inch screen by Uperfect that honestly feels more like a proper desktop display. Both have direct USB-C input that'll let you connect the new console using a single cable, and you can even run the screens off of external power banks if you want to properly cut the cord.

I'm already seeing some sweet deals on Switch 2 accessories
The Switch 2 hasn't even officially arrived, and yet, I'm seeing discounted accessories at Amazon. I'm already eyeing up a set of Ivoler screen protectors and a Jsaux carry case since both are on offer thanks to a limited-time deal. Plus, you're going to want to protect your handheld from day one anyway, and if you haven't grabbed a bundle with those add-ons included already, the offer will let you do so for under $30.

The calm before the invite storm?
It's all pretty still on the Switch 2 stock front. However, today is the day that Nintendo unleashes a storm of pre-order invites, so perhaps that will finally be the key to grabbing the handheld. Those of you who don't quality will still want to keep a close eye on Best Buy, Target, and Walmart, though, as I have a suspicion that retailers could end up with more drops once Ninty kicks off its own thing.
Don't forget about in-store only pre-orders in the UK!

I was just speaking to a friend who says their local Currys is still taking Switch 2 pre-orders in the UK. That could save you trying to grab stock online, and also comes with that old-school level of excitement you'd traditionally get at a console launch a few generations ago. Just be wary of any retailer trying to get you to buy a more expensive bundle, as my bank account is still crying after grabbing an overly expensive PS5 package from Currys back when the system first launched.

Don't take your eye off of Newegg
Newegg isn't one of Nintendo's "official" partner retailers, but the tech site does have a Switch 2 listing complete with prices. That to me is a sign that the store is potentially expecting stock soon, and it could end up being a sneaky way to grab the handheld via an unexpected route. There's no guarantee it will end up with systems in stock, so keep it as a backup plan rather than hatching any definite plans.

Are there any third-party Switch 2 controllers yet?

Third-party Switch controllers are dime a dozen, but some of you might be looking for a cheaper gamepad that has back buttons and that new 'C' chat toggle. So far, I'm not seeing any brands with a pad that's specifically for the new handheld, and that's largely because the old Pro Controllers will work with Ninty's latest system.
You'll be missing out on the extra buttons, but all those pads by PowerA, 8bitdo, and various other accessory makers should work just fine. You apparently won't be able to wake the system, though, so that could be a reason to hold out for third-party Switch 2 controllers if you don't want to spend $80 on the official pad.

Switch 2 stock is still limited
No major changes to Switch 2 availability as of yet, and Nintendo's invite system will serve as one of the last ways to grab the handheld before launch. I am hopefully more drops will happen at retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, Target, and GameStop, but you'll have to be quick on your feet to snag cancelled orders and limited restocks.
In the UK, TheGameCollection is still rocking a larger bundle, and while it's not an ideal way to pick the system up, it will let you pick one up before launch alongside a few extra games and accessories.
Where are the cheapest Switch 2 games at?

Switch 2 games are pretty pricey, but some retailers are actually cheaper than others. For example, Argos typically has upcoming releases for a bit less than the likes of GAME in the UK, and even though we're only talking a couple of pounds, it's still enough to matter. The US seems to be a little better at sticking with the same MSRPs across the board, but Amazon seems to be chipping a few dollars off some games despite not stocking pre-orders for the actual console.

Do you really need a microSD Express card for Switch 2?

I always hate having to think about expanding storage, and the same applies to the Switch 2. Ultimately, it's an investment you'll have to make if you plan on buying a lot of digital games, and even physical installs are going to take up room.
That said, the Switch 2 comes with 256GB storage built in, and Ninty's new releases are surprisingly slimline when it comes to installs. Mario Kart World only takes up 23.4GB, whereas Donkey Kong Bananza somehow manages to only need 10GB. Enhanced editions of Breath of the Wild, Tears of the Kingdom, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land don't require much room compared to the originals either, so chances are you won't need a microSD Express card right away.

Psst, you potentially already have a Switch 2 camera

No, really, if you've got a webcam perched on top of your monitor right now, there's a good chance it'll work with the Switch 2. The only thing you'll need to do is pick up a USB-C adapter if your cam of choice doesn't use the standard already, as that will help you plug it into the handheld's top port.
No every webcam is guaranteed to be compatible with Switch 2, but since many use the same drivers and protocols, there's still a solid chance. You'll also have access to a "test USB camera" feature in the settings that will properly confirm compatibility, and it's worth checking that first before splashing out on the official accessory.

John Lewis Switch 2 pre-orders just dropped in the UK
Things are mighty quiet in the US, but UK retailer John Lewis just dropped more Switch 2 pre-order stock. At the moment, it has the vanilla console available, but it will arrive on June 5 for those of you not looking to pick up Mario Kart World for less. I'd get on this quick since it's now the cheapest option going for the United Kingdom, and supplies never last that long.
Rather than there being a dedicated page, there appears to be just a functioning "add to basket" button, so keep that in mind while browsing.
Nintendo Switch 2 | £395.99 at John Lewis
Should you focus on getting the Mario Kart World bundle?

Bundles are a surefire way to save a bit of cash, and the Mario Kart World Switch 2 is going to cost a bit less than buying separately. The package comes in at $499.99 / £429.99, and for the extra $50 / £30, you're getting a digital version of the new racer, whereas you'll pay $79.99 / £74.99 for a physical copy.
The natural downside here is that you're getting a download rather than a cart, which will stop you from trading it in for something else at a later date. While it still means you have something to play on day one without paying full price, it's also not ideal if you're really looking to grab Donkey Kong Bananza or another launch adventure, since you'll end up paying even more for additional cartridges.
TLDR: The Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle is the best value package, but sticking with the vanilla console comes with better buying versatility.

Stock update: TheGameCollection is fresh out of Switch 2 pre-orders
The pricey bundle previously available at TheGameCollection is now out of stock, but John Lewis has stepped in with a vanilla MSRP listing. That ultimately means you won't have to pay for any additional add-ons, but the retailer hasn't got the Mario Kart World bundle available yet.
As for the US, no drops as of yet, but watch this space as Nintendo starts to invite Switch Online members to pick up pre-orders.
John Lewis has tapped out
Sorry folks, John Lewis is now fresh out of Switch 2 pre-orders in the UK. More drops could happen, and cancellations could lead to a brief re-stock window, so I'll be keeping an eye on the page just in case things change.
For now, let's focus on more retailers re-joining the Switch 2 pre-order race.
PSA: Your original JoyCon will still work with Switch 2

Nintendo's Switch 2 compatibility guidance can be a little confusing, so before you go get rid of your original JoyCon controllers, there are a few things to note.
First off, they will work with the Switch 2 wirelessly, which in turn will let you play OG Switch games that rely on specific features like the IR sensor. They'll also make for great additional gamepads for playing Mario Kart World and other multiplayer outings, so even if you can't attach them to the handheld itself, they're still extremely useful.
This is purely speculation, but I actually wouldn't be too surprised if a third-party accessory comes up with an adapter for JoyCon support on Switch 2. That could theoretically allow you to attach the rail-based gamepads to the new magnetic sides and use them for handheld play, so it is worth keeping that in mind if you have a nice collection of pads.

Nintendo warns that the Switch 2 could still go up in price

Uh-oh, looks like the Switch 2 prices could still rise, as Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa says that while the company is working "quickly" to beat tariff-related hikes, any further drastic changes could influence future MSRPs.
Essentially, pre-ordering a Switch 2 now could mean paying less for the console if the tariff situation changes. That hopefully won't happen, as it'll mean everyone will have to pay more for accessories, games, and other related add-ons too, but it's worth keeping in mind as things play out.
Currys finally has online Switch 2 pre-orders!
You now don't have to physically go to a Currys store in the UK for a Switch 2, as the retailer's website now has pre-orders available. There are two bundles right now, both of which are a chunk over MSRP due to extra controllers, games and accessories, but it's another chance to grab the handheld before supplies dry up again.

Will vanilla Switch 2 stock reappear?

Currys is the latest retailer in the UK to drop Switch 2 stock online, but both its options include accessories that bump the price well over £500. For many players, that could mean the difference between being able to grab the handheld and having to wait.
However, base Switch 2 stock isn't non-existent, and John Lewis actually dropped models for under £400 earlier today. So, if you can't afford the current Currys bundles, don't give up hope, as there are stores that aren't looking to maximise profits by making you pick up additional add-ons with the console. Of course, if you're looking for Mario Kart World and extras like the camera, JoyCon, and matching steering wheels, you'll want to jump on what Currys has to offer.

Currys stock is still holding strong
Perhaps its the higher price tag tied to the bundles at Currys, but the retailer's Switch 2 pre-order stock is holding out so far. Both models have been available for around 40 minutes now, so there's still a chance for you to decide if they're the right bundle for you.
It's worth noting Currys does have the individual console listed out of stock, which means it's not off the table. The retailer could also put together a completely different bundle with an alternative price tag if stocks last, which could help you grab the console for less than current prices.

Smyths now has Switch 2 pre-order stock in the UK

It might be late afternoon in the UK, but Smyths just decided to join Currys with Switch 2 pre-order stock. The toy store has the base model available online for under £400, so you'll want to be quick since that's the option more players are likely to jump on immediately.

I've already got a Switch 2 pre-order secured, but Smyths is where I'd head for one
More often than not, you're going to see Switch 2 pre-orders bundled with a whole bunch of accessories and games. That's not great if, like me, you're on a strict budget, and the fact Smyths has consoles for under £400 makes all the difference. Sure, you're going to need games to go with it, but I'd rather secure the system and pick up a new game in time for launch if it means sticking to MSRP.

Stock update: Currys and Smyths Switch pre-orders still available

I fully expected a quieter day in the UK, but instead, retailers decided to unleash Switch 2 stock. Currys had you covered for more expensive Mario Kart World bundles, whereas Smyths is offering up just the handheld for under £400.
I would prefer to see the Mario Kart World bundle without extras attached to come into stock, but for now, this is a nice selection of Switch 2 pre-orders for the UK. In the US, players should be receiving invites to buy the handheld directly from Nintendo, and I'm hoping retailers like Best Buy, Walmart, and GameStop will then end up with more drops ahead of June 5.

Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle | £569.99 at Currys
Good morning, folks! It's another day and another chance to hunt for a Switch 2 pre-order. I'll be doing the rounds and keeping tabs on all the Switch 2 stock in the US and UK today, so stay tuned for updates. To begin with, since the US readers are still likely in their beds, we'll focus on UK retailers.
Currys has bundles! Go, go, go!
I'm seeing two bundles available for pre-order at Currys right now, so I've linked them both below.
Switch 2, Street Fighter 6, Pro Controller, Camera: £569 at Currys
Switch 2, Mario Kart World, Joy-Con 2 (extra pair), Joy-Con 2 wheels, Switch 2 camera: £569 at Currys
Smyths is also supplying the goods

If you aren't too worried about bundles, you can also pre-order the Switch 2 at Smyths right now, with click and collect and home delivery options available.

A closer look at that Street Fighter bundle

I'm taking a risk in honing in on this bundle since it could be gone before I finish writing this post, but even for future reference for shoppers who come to this page later in the day, this is the sort of bundle you can expect to find when occasional stock drops happen.
Currys is currently packing a bundle that gets you a Switch 2, a Switch 2 Pro Controller, A Switch 2 Camera, and Street Fighter 6 Years 1-2. All that, and it's priced at £569. That isn't exactly as cheap as MSRP for the console, but unfortunately, a lot of retailers are reserving their stock for these big bundles instead of just allowing people to buy the console itself. But hey, at least it isn't scalping, right?
Switch 2 Street Fighter 6 bundle: £569 at Currys
A new ShopTo bundle!

ShopTo has been a pretty decent supplier of Switch 2 bundles in the UK, and today it's got a new option which gets you the console, an extra set of Joy-Con 2 controllers, and a camera.
According to the sources I can see, this bundle has stuck around this morning, so whether people don't know about it, or ShopTo's supply is pretty good, it seems to be available. The page does say 1940 other people are viewing it right now, though, so I wouldn't fly too casual on this one.
Switch 2, Joy-Con 2, Switch 2 Camera pre-order bundle: £520 at ShopTo
Look on the bright side, things are getting quieter...

I'm going to go out on a limb here.
In the UK right now, demand seems to be slowing ever so slightly. This time last week, or even two weeks ago, any stock that appeared was flying off the shelves we hardly had a chance to write it up in a live post before it was all gone. Now though, bundles at Currys, ShopTo, and Smyths are lasting hours, and a few options have even stuck around for two days in a row. That's a great sign that people are securing their pre-orders, and from here on out, it might get a little less stressful to shop for a Switch 2.
That said, I wouldn't relax completely. We don't know how deep the supply at all these retailers go, after all...
What's going on with Amazon?

If you're only just arriving at the party, you might be wondering why Amazon (y'know, the world's largest online retailer) isn't the immediate go-to for Switch 2 pre-orders.
In the UK, it does have a listing for the Switch 2, and has dropped some stock a couple of times. It has been gone in a flash, though, to the surprise of no one. That listing now says "currently unavailable," though, and it's hard to say when we'll see Amazon deliver the goods again.
In the US, things are more complicated. Although a couple of Switch 2 games are listed on the Stateside store, there's no retail page for the Switch 2. Call it tariff complications, call it an underhanded beef with Nintendo over previous launches and shipping foibles (some rumours suggest this is an issue because Amazon has shipped previous Nintendo games and hardware earlier than it should have). Either way, we're still waiting on Uncle Jeff giving us Switch 2 pre-order opportunities.
Amazon usually tends to be late to the party on gaming hardware launches, but when they do finally get there, it takes a pretty enormous supply. More on this as it develops!
US retailers to check this morning...
Good morning to our bright and early US readers! As we get set for another day of Switch 2 pre-order hunting, I'm going to round up the retailers that are worth keeping an eye on. It should be noted that the first port of call for you should be your email inbox. With Nintendo sending out their own invites yesterday, it's worth making doubly sure that one of its pre-order links didn't land in your spam folders without you noticing. That might be your best way of securing a Switch 2 today - just be careful you don't click any fake links.
Other retailers to consider are down below...

A neat trick from a bygone era

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. If you're having trouble finding Switch 2 pre-order stock, or you just can't get to each retailer quickly enough, there's another method you can try. Hop on your most loyal steed, whether it's a Yoshi, 50cc motorbike, or Green Shell, and make your way to an in-person shop near you. It can be one of the best-kept secrets of modern-day gaming hardware shopping, but local superstores and electronics retailers can have stock no one knows about. That goes for UK and US suppliers, so it's worth thinking about.
The Nintendo rival that wasn't around last time

Back in 2017, there wasn't a handheld gaming PC market. Arguably, one of the reasons the biggest PC brands had the confidence to go after a portable gap in the market was because the original Switch's versatility proved to be so popular.
As a result, the Switch 2 now has to compete with a bustling market of handheld gaming PC competitors that the original didn't need to think about. But which device is going to be right for you? If you're still on the fence about pre-ordering, you might benefit from a little market research.
My colleague Phil, our resident handheld gaming expert, put together a handy Switch 2 vs Steam Deck guide that'll walk you through the differences between Nintendo's new console and one of the most popular handheld PC on the shelves currently.
A slimline Switch 2 case, anyone?

Is anyone else enraged by bulky Switch cases that take up an entire backpack and just don't flatter the design of the console in any way? Me too, but luckily, the makers of one of our favorite OG Switch cases now have an option for Switch 2 pre-order season.
The TomToc cases have a soft, slimline design with soft cushioning and excellent organisation inside for game cards. They even integrate the facial features of the buttons into the shape of the case, meaning it isn't going to sap all the real estate from your backpack while still offering protection for your new console.
You can even get a 10% coupon on it if you check the box on the retail page.

A quick UK round up
As we shift more of a focus onto the US side of things, here's a brief update as to where you can grab a Switch 2 in the UK. ShopTo still has its Joy-Con and Camera bundle going for £520.85, so that could be a play. Alternatively, Currys still has its bundles going. I can confirm for sure that the Street Fighter one (£569) I spotlighted earlier is still available to add to your basket, but the Mario Kart bundle is a little more difficult. Maybe it's because I have multiple tabs open at once, and the restriction of one per customer is kicking in, but that could still be around for you.
Annoyingly, Smyths has now run out of its Switch 2 pre-orders, meaning there's nowhere to currently get the console on its own without going over MSRP for a bundle.
So many product pages, so few buying buttons
After a brief check, there are listed Switch 2 product pages at these US retailers:
But none of them have stock going. You have to think that such an elongated stock drought means that all of the supply that isn't Nintendo's is completely spent in the region, so the wait now is for a second batch of day-1 (or thereabouts) stock to be assigned to each seller. I'm spamming those refresh buttons for any outliers, though.
While we wait, does anyone wanna place bets on which retailer will activate its pre-order button first? 👀
What games are on the way?

Need a nudge out of the door for securing a Switch 2 pre-order? Maybe a list of all the confirmed games for it will do the trick. You can check out the guide linked below to see games we know are coming, their release dates, and even some that don't have confirmed launches yet.
Upcoming Switch 2 games for 2025 and beyond
Still no word on third-party controllers

This is just a brief reminder while we wait for more stock that third-party Switch controllers aren't confirmed to be compatible with Switch 2 yet. Since Nintendo has confirmed wider compatibility for its own homemade accessories, it's hard to imagine that existing controllers won't work with Switch 2, though. Still, we haven't had any official word on that yet.
Why am I reminding you of this? Well, because some US retailers do come up with Switch 1 controller search results when you search for a Switch 2 pre-order, and while it might be tempting to grab yourself a spare accessory before you find the console, it might end up being a waste of money. When we hear any official updates on that, we'll let you know.
A stock check
US
As depressing as this is, there's currently nowhere in the US where you can pre-order the Switch 2, unless you've had an official invite from Nintendo to claim a pre-order through its store. Amazon still doesn't have anything listed, and other retailers who do have product pages have their buying buttons greyed out.
UK

Tips for the weekend
It's getting close to the end of play on a Friday, which means our live coverage of Switch 2 stock is about to rest for a few days before we pick it back up next week. While we won't be updating with live posts and updates, the page itself is set up to help you out over the weekend. The links you should be checking are all in place up above this section, and if you want to know as much as we do about Switch 2, you can click the hyperlink to see our conclusive guide.
In the US, it's unlikely we'll see any big stock drops over a Saturday and Sunday, but I'd maybe keep an eye on Newegg, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy since they already have product pages for pre-orders.
And that'll do it!

It's past 17.30 here in the UK, so I'll be downing tools and heading off for the weekend now. Annoyingly, it's been another quiet day if you're a US shopper. Hopefully you've had a Nintendo invite email to keep you satisfied, but right now all eyes (and envy) are on UK shoppers who have actually had some decent stock levels and bundles to consider.
All the best for the weekend, and we'll see you back here Monday morning.
