Rockstar Games will exclusively release "Grand Theft Auto VI" on consoles, but only for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S and X. However, a new report claims that Nintendo wants to get in on the action.
A Switch 2 version has never been officially announced, but according to a known industry insider, conversations between Nintendo and Rockstar Games are already underway.
Nintendo Wants 'GTA VI' to Launch on Switch 2
The report comes from insider Nick Baker, who shared the information on social media and has built a track record of accurate gaming scoops over the years. Baker said Nintendo is currently in talks with Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive about the possibility of porting "GTA VI" to Switch 2.
He was careful to note that nothing is confirmed and that discussions appear to be at an early stage, adding that if a Switch 2 version does happen, it would most likely arrive sometime in 2027 or later.
"GTA VI" is currently set to launch exclusively on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19, with a PC version expected to follow at some point after that.
For what it’s worth, I haven’t heard “it’s coming” but I’ve heard they’re working with Rockstar/Take Two to make to try and make it happen https://t.co/VQTsdm12gL

Nintendo Works With Rockstar For 'GTA VI'
According to ComicBook Gaming, Nintendo's motivation for pursuing the port is straightforward, as the Switch 2 has been selling strongly since its June 2025 release, quickly becoming one of the fastest-selling Nintendo consoles to date. Landing "GTA VI" on that install base would be a major commercial and strategic win for the platform.
Porting a game of "GTA VI's" scale and technical complexity to different hardware requires significant development resources, and the studio would need to weigh whether the Switch 2 user base justifies that investment.
Nintendo is reportedly willing to offer support and resources to help make the port happen, which could tip the scales in favor of Rockstar committing to the project.
That kind of platform holder involvement is not uncommon for high-profile third-party titles, and it mirrors how other publishers have been coaxed into bringing ambitious games to Nintendo hardware in the past.
Can the Switch 2 Run 'GTA VI'?
The Switch 2 is a meaningful hardware leap over the original Switch, but it still operates on a considerably different tier than the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
A Switch 2 version of "GTA VI" would almost certainly require visual and technical compromises to run on the handheld, including lower resolution, reduced draw distances, and scaled-back environmental detail compared to what players on other platforms will experience.
That said, the Switch 2 has already proven capable of running demanding titles that many initially assumed were out of reach for Nintendo hardware.
The broader question is whether Rockstar is willing to invest the time and engineering effort needed to make it happen, especially while the studio's attention remains firmly on the November launch and its ongoing "GTA Online" plans.
A partnership with Nintendo providing direct support could be the deciding factor in whether this ever moves beyond early discussions, but nothing is confirmed.
