Nintendo is reportedly working on a 1-2 Switch sequel, but it’s not going well

An unannounced 1-2 Switch follow-up is reportedly in development at Nintendo, though internal playtest results haven’t been glowing.

According to a report by Fanbyte, the sequel might be titled Everybody’s 1-2 Switch and includes minigames like Bingo, Musical Chairs, and a family-friendly version of Spin the Bottle where participants complement each other. Nintendo isn’t simply making an iterative sequel, as Everybody’s 1-2 Switch reportedly allows more than 100 players to join in on the fun through smartphone integration. Jackbox Games is apparently a massive inspiration in that regard.

It seems like a no-brainer idea, especially since 1-2 Switch has sold more than 3.45 million copies. Trouble is, Everybody’s 1-2 Switch may never see the light of day.

Sources told Fanbyte that feedback wasn’t what Nintendo wanted. Many playtesters, primarily families with children, thought the minigames were tedious. Bingo, for example, had one player mimic rummaging through numbers and pulling one out before reading it off the TV screen. As you can imagine, many people found it boring.

Nintendo reportedly has cover art printed off for tons of empty Everybody’s 1-2 Switch cases, and things might stay that way with the project having no release date in sight. Who knows if those boxes will ever contain an actual game at all.

Given how many more Switch consoles are out there, one would assume Nintendo would release Everybody’s 1-2 Switch straight away. Such is the nature of video game development, I suppose.
