Nintendo Is Ending the Switch Game Voucher Program Later This Month

Nintendo has announced that its Switch Game Voucher program is ending on January 30, 2026. If you are a Switch Online subscriber, you can still grab these vouchers until that date, and they’ll be usable up to a year after the purchase date on select games. For those not deep into the Nintendo ecosystem, these vouchers are smart perks for Nintendo Switch Online members.

Essentially, you can buy two Game Vouchers for $100, and each voucher is redeemable for a full-price first-party game. As long as the game was on the list and currently at $60, you could save $10 on games like Pokémon Legends Z-A, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Metroid Dread, and more. Note that the Mario Kart World is not on this list, as the program was exclusive to the original Switch.

Nintendo rarely discounts its first-party games, so the voucher program was a neat way of saving a bit of cash on new releases. The program was never perfect or the best deal out there, as vouchers expired after a year, and you needed an active NSO sub to use them. But in a world where Nintendo rarely discounts big hits, you were at least saving $20 in total on two games. That $20 could buy you a nice indie, something like Skate Story or Hollow Knight: Silksong

But with the Switch 2 out there making waves, the focus has obviously shifted to the newer, shinier platform. As the original Switch is entering its retirement years, Nintendo might want to shift focus to streamlining perks to prioritize the next-gen experience. It makes sense from a business standpoint, but it stings for those still loyal to the OG Switch.

If you currently have vouchers sitting unused, check your Nintendo account via the NSO section to see their expiry dates. And if you’re tempted to stock up, grab the vouchers now before they’re gone on January 30. This may very well be the last time you pay $50 for a digital first-party Nintendo game, as the Switch 2 releases are now $70 to $80. At the same time, it may be worth eyeing the Switch 2 upgrade now.
