Nintendo just dropped a blog post detailing which of its older Switch games will get a free visual upgrade when the Switch 2 comes out this coming June 5.
The new list of games getting upgrades for free includes big names like New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Pokémon Scarlet & Pokémon Violet, and The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening.
Most of the upgrades include things like optimized visuals for the upgraded Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs, Joy-Con 2 mouse control support (for some games), and game share features not originally in the games themselves.
This is all in contrast to the recent announcement Nintendo made about some big-name games requiring paid upgrades for the Switch 2 versions.
Games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Metroid Prime 4: Beyond will all need a purchasable upgrade from the eShop to enable newer Switch 2 features, like new modes with mouse controls, upgraded visuals, or game share capabilities.

- Super Mario Odyssey
- The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom
- The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
While some gamers may have complained about purchasing upgrades to games they already own, this at least shows Nintendo is willing to meet them halfway with updated titles they don't have to pay for.
