Nintendo announces Pokemon Legends Z-A DLC before the game's even out: Mega Dimension expansion adds "spatial distortions" and makes Raichu the third Pokemon to ever get two Mega Evolutions

Nintendo has confirmed that Pokemon Legends Z-A will be getting a DLC expansion titled Mega Dimension.

In the teaser trailer for the DLC we were shown Hoopa opening up some kind of portal, with two Raichu emerging from it, who quickly revealed themselves to be Mega Raichu X and Mega Raichu Y making it the third Pokemon to receive two Mega Evolution forms in the series after Charizard and Mewtwo. According to The Pokemon Company "Mega Raichu X floats using electromagnetism, concentrating electricity into its fists to land devastating blows. Mega Raichu Y strikes foes swiftly with the amplified electric power coursing through its body."

The expansion is available for pre-order now on the eShop, with "Holo-X and Holo-Y apparel items" coming on the game's October 16, 2025, launch date, with the additional story content included in the expansion simply listed as "coming soon."

The press release from The Pokemon Company also described the expansion's story in a little more detail. "The Mischief Pokémon, Hoopa, seems to hold the key to Mega Dimension’s story. This Mythical Pokémon can warp space using the rings on its horns and around its body. These loops are stretchable and can form holes inside them leading to far-off places. Spatial distortions have also appeared in Lumiose, giving fans even more to discover throughout the city."

The Nintendo Direct also confirmed Mega Evolutions for the Starter Trio of Pokemon X and Y, with Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, and Mega Greninja appearing in the main game. The Mega Stones needed to evolve these Pokemon "can be obtained from the Z-A Battle Club as rewards for being promoted up the ranks in online Ranked Battles" meaning you'll have to go online to get them.

Another Pokemon game was confirmed in the direct, Pokopia, a bizarre mix between the series and life sims where you play as a Ditto pretending to be human.
