Ninian Road in Cardiff closed for several hours following serious car crash

Numerous roads have been closed in Cardiff following a crash which saw a car flip onto its roof.

A stretch of Ninian Road, in the Roath area of the city, was closed in both directions for several hours with several other roads also inaccessible.

A blue sheet was seen hanging close to the crash site where it's thought a man lost control of his vehicle after clipping the kerb. He was taken to hospital but no update on his injuries has been provided by the emergency services.

The crash happened at 2.20pm on Tuesday and Ninian Road remained closed at 6pm with police at the scene directing traffic and the road taped off and blocked with cones. Traffic monitoring system Inrix reported congestion from Kelvin Road to Fairoak Road while Tyfdil Place, Morlais Street, Boverton Street, and Kelvin Road were also closed off.

A South Wales Police statement said: "Emergency services are in attendance at a collision involving one car on Ninian Road, Roath, in Cardiff .

"The incident happened shortly after 2.20pm and the road is closed in both directions from Alder Road to Shirley Road. Motorists are advised to avoid the area."

A spokeswoman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called to a a single-vehicle road traffic collision believed to be a gentleman who flipped a car. One person was vacated to the University Hospital of Wales, Heath. They think he hit the kerb. It was a single car. One ambulance was sent to the scene."

The road was fully re-opened at around 7pm.
