Iraq's Mosul city witnesses a hike in victims of tribal clashes, dozens of whom die on monthly basis in Nineveh, said Head of Forensic Medicine in Mosul Ahmed Jassim.
Most of the corpses that arrive at the forensic medicine department are for victims of tribal fights, in which most of the problems end up in battles, Jassim affirmed to the German news agency (dpa).
Earlier, a security source announced that two civilians were dead and two others were wounded by a tribal clash that witnessed shooting.
Resident Khadija Hassan said that Nineveh saw an increase in deaths due to these fights caused by ignorance and the prevail of tribalism, in addition to the absence of understanding among tribes which leads to bloodshed.
Sadek Hassan, who is also from the same region, stated that he lost five sons in tribal clashes. Hassan noted that people are still paying the cost of these tribal issues that leave scores from both conflicting parties.
The clashes in Iraq, namely in Nineveh, are spurred by community conflicts such as 'nahwa' - referring to a tribal custom that authorizes men to reject marriage proposals to a female member – and conflicts on heritage and agricultural lands not to mention thefts.
