A child has died on a Lufthansa airlines flight from Shanghai to Munich.
The plane was diverted to Russia in an attempt to provide medical treatment to the child.
Lufthansa confirmed to the Independent that the incident had taken place while the child was travelling with her parents.
The plane, reported to be Airbus A340-600, touched down at 5am local time, according to Russian news agency Tass.
The child was pronounced dead by a doctor at Krasnoyarsk airport, a spokesperson from Lufthansa said.
The 9 year-old girl was an Italian citizen of Chinese heritage, Tass reported.
"The child was not breathing and had no pulse,” Yana Strizhova, a spokesperson for the West Siberian department of Russia’s Investigative Committee, told Tass.
“The doctors tried to bring her back to life but to no avail."
The plane later completed its journey to Munich three hours behind schedule.
