11 ultra-festive Christmas events happening in and around Dublin this winter

Is it too early to speak of Christmas?

Many would argue that it is, but others also know that it takes some planning, especially when it comes to sell-out events happening around the city and beyond.

After the almost two years of restrictions, the holiday spirit is expected to be a thing of beauty as people rediscover the pure magic that Dublin has to offer for the festive season.

Here are nine Christmas experiences you should visit this year.

Wild Lights at Dublin Zoo

The most magical light experience returns to Dublin Zoo for the 2021 festive season promising an enchanting journey around the world to places like Spain, Morocco, the USA, France and Egypt with immersive light installations.

Additionally, Wild Lights will extend into the African Plains for the first time ever this year.

Through a stunning display of giant colourful silk lanterns, guests will embark on a breath-taking journey taking in the famous sights from all the continents, even exploring outer space, without ever leaving the grounds of Dublin Zoo. (Patrick Bolger)

Wonderlights at Malahide Castle

Similarly, Malahide Castle will be lit up with an exciting display for November and December. Expect a curious journey through the forest and the gorgeous illuminated backdrop of the historical castle as you and the family (or you and your date) take a stroll through a "magical mix of light, colour and nature".
