Nine simple reasons why Dublin will always be better than Cork

We used to have great time for our Rebel pals CorkBeo until they decided to tear into us with an article titled 9 reasons why Dubliners should be jealous of Cork.

Some of the outrageous lies spread by our Southern friends was that Murphy's was better than Guinness, ew, and that their landscape was much more scenic than Dublin's, ha.

Pat Fitzpatrick recently released a book called "101 reasons why Cork is better than Dublin" - which you can get in most book stores or learn more about here - but CorkBeo could only come up with nine.

So, to keep this debate fair, we'll match their nine with nine of our own but we could certainly come up with 102 reasons, just saying.

1. We. Are. The. Capital

We are the capital of Ireland. Get over it, move on. Stop trying to cling onto the 'real capital' title, it's getting embarrassing now.  We are a city, Cork is really just a big town...

2. Croke Park

Páirc Uí Chaoimh doesn't even hold a candle to it. And our GAA teams are streets ahead of the Rebels. Just saying...

3. Much better nightlife

Dublin's pubs and nightclubs are booming on every day and night that ends in a 'y'. Cork on a weekday is like a ghost town...

Name us a better nightclub than Coppers? Name us a better area than Temple Bar?

4. Guinness Storehouse

One of the world's favourite and most loved attractions. And why? Because the alcoholic drink is the greatest in the world. Beamish, don't even get us started on Beamish...

5. Music history

The Dubliners, Luke Kelly, U2, Thin Lizzy, Aslan, do you want us to go on? Music runs deep through the blood of the Dublin people.

We wish we had Rory Gallagher, we'll admit that much but apart from that, who have Cork got? The Sultans of Ping FC? The Frank and Walters? In the words of Corkonian legend Roy Keane, 'nonsense'.

6. Shopping

We are a shoppers dream place to visit in Ireland. Cork only really has Patrick's Street where people can peruse. We'd nearly put Galway ahead of Cork when it comes to the shopping list...

7. Coddle over Crubeens

A stew consisting of left-over sausages, rashers, potatoes and whatever hearty food is in the fridge sounds like heaven in a pot...boiling pig's feet does not.

8. Culture

The Olympia, The Gaiety and The Bord Gais Energy Theatre, name a better trio.

Sure, Cork has the Opera House and The Everyman Theatre but some of the nation's greatest performances have happened inside those Dublin walls.

Irish Independent Park will always be in the shadow of Malahide Castle and Marlay Park with the 3Arena always first on the list for musicians and comedians.

9.  The Spire

It's an iconic worldwide landmark and it was only ever going to be situated in one place - even if we're not quite entirely sure what it's meant to be.

This is such a well-loved and famous marker for Ireland that hundreds of thousands of people read our fake article on April Fool's Day which claimed that a bizarre bend was starting to appear at the top of it.

We've only gone in lightly on CorkBeo here. They can consider themselves lucky, this time.
