Nine places Lidl want to open new stores in Bristol - is your area on the list?

There is a Lidl in almost every neighbourhood in Bristol, but can you ever have too many of them?

Bosses at the German supermarket don't think so as they have released a list of locations they're looking to build a new store.

There are approximately 10 Lidl's in Bristol, with a few more scattered nearby in South Gloucestershire or toward the Somerset border.

In a brochure published by the bargain chain in April 2020, they wrote: "We're looking for great quality locations for our new stores, to help us continue with our phenomenal growth."

So they are hoping that people with substantial land or development space will get in touch to talk about having a big-budget supermarket there.

What's required of the space?

In order for the development space to qualify, Lidl has a stringent list of requirements.

These include:

  • Prominent locations with easy access and strong pedestrian or traffic flow;

  • Freehold, leasehold or long leasehold opportunities;

  • Unit sizes flexible on design and scale between 14,000 and 26,500 sq ft;

  • 1.5 acres plus for standalone stores or up to four acres for mixed-use schemes.

Successful applicants will get a response within seven days and 1.5 per cent for freeholds or 10 per cent of year one rent for leaseholds.

In other Bristol Lidl news, it was revealed today (Wednesday, April 28) that the Lawrence Hill branch will close for around three months to allow for an ongoing refurbishment to be completed.

Construction on the extension and modernisation of the store has moved into the final stages of development.

To enable the final improvement works to take place, the store will be closed from 6pm on Saturday, May 8 until late July - click here for the full story.

The transformation will result in a "significant improvement to the customer experience," said a spokesperson for Lidl, as well as enabling a "greater offering to the local area".
