Nine people who had travelled hundreds of miles in two cars stopped at Welsh beauty spot

Nine people in two cars broke strict Covid-19 regulations by travelling more than 250 miles to  a Welsh beauty spot.

Police said the group also left rubbish at Stackpole and Barafundle in Pembrokeshire.

The area is regularly voted one of the nicest spots in the UK, but tourist spots are still closed because of the coronavirus pandemic and people in Wales are still only advised not to travel any further than five miles.

Dyfed Powys Police shared pictures of the cars and rubbish on Twitter, and said that a total of nine people had been reported on Thursday morning at Stackpole and Barafundle.

They said they had been reported "for breaching coronavirus regulations".

They added: "Persons had travelled from Birmingham and Northampton respectively. Rubbish cleaned up and vehicles escorted from the area."

It comes a day after people from three different households in England were stopped by police while making a 500-mile round trip to Wales.

The passengers travelling in the same car from Bognor Regis claimed that they were "sightseeing" and had planned on travelling to Snowdonia National Park "as they were celebrating an occasion".

Officers from  Dyfed-Powys Police  stopped the vehicle in  Builth Wells.

The force's roads policing unit in  Brecon  issued four fixed penalty notices to the occupants before sending them home.
