Nine new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the ACT on Saturday, bringing the total count to 71.

Six males and three females aged between 48 and 73 make up the new cases.

There is still no evidence of community transmission in Canberra although one of the newly confirmed cases is under investigation as to the origin.

The other new cases are linked to overseas travel including cruise ships, and one is a close contact of a confirmed case.

There are no new flights associated with these cases.

There are six COVID-19 patients in Canberra hospitals however their conditions are unknown. The others are isolating at home.

Two people have recovered from the virus in Canberra since the first case was announced in the territory on March 12.

There have been 3988 negative COVID-19 tests in the ACT to date.

ACT acting Chief Health Officer Vanessa Johnston said on Saturday without community transmission "the ACT is in a comparatively good position".

"We are working incredibly hard to delay this, to 'flatten the curve' so our health system is in the best position it can be to provide the most advanced and best possible care to those who need it," Ms Johnston said.

"Our message today from ACT Health is to minimise the amount of contact you have with other people outside your household."

She said it is imperative Canberrans take seriously the message to only go out when absolutely essential, keep 1.5 metres between you and others when out, and practise good hand hygiene.
