Nine more people die after contracting coronavirus in Wales

Nine more people who tested positive for coronavirus in Wales have died, it has been announced.

The total number of deaths of people with lab-confirmed coronavirus since the outbreak began has reached 1,410, Public Health Wales said.

Public Health Wales' daily figures on coronavirus-related deaths reflect the number of people who have died with lab-confirmed coronavirus which have been reported to them.

As it can take two or three days for reports to reach them, the deaths have not all happened in the last 24 hours.

Where today's new cases are reported

The number of positive cases in the country has reached 14,480, a rise of 42 from Monday.

Rhondda Cynon Taf has reported 11 new cases of the virus, the most of any other local authority in Wales. The area has also experienced the highest number of cases per 100,000 people in Wales.

The Aneurin Bevan University Health Board has recorded no new cases of the virus for the second day in a row.

The new figures come Wales enters its second week of contact tracing to stem the spread of the virus.

Speaking at the Welsh Government coronavirus briefing on Tuesday, health minister Vaughan Gething said 651 coronavirus contacts had been identified in the first week of the new system.

Of those, he said 619 have been "successfully contacted".
