Nine more coronavirus patients have died at the Royal Bolton Hospital

Nine more coronavirus patients have died at Royal Bolton Hospital, NHS England announced this afternoon.

It is the largest daily increase in the number of fatalities at the hospital so far, taking to 27 the total number of people to die at the Royal Bolton after testing positive for Covid-19.

Although the nine additional deaths were all announced today, the patients did not all die in the last 24 hours as there is often a delay in the reporting of cases.

NHS England statistics show that six patients died at the hospital on Friday, three more on Saturday and four yesterday (Sunday), but some of these numbers may increase as further cases are reported in the coming days.

Across Greater Manchester there have now been a total of 246 Covid-19 patients to die in hospital after testing positive for coronavirus, an increase of 23 on yesterday.

It is only four weeks since the first death was reported in Greater Manchester, a man aged in his 60s who died on 8 March at North Manchester General Hospital.
