Nine-mile stretch of M74 closed after lorry overturns in blizzard conditions

A nine-mile stretch of the M74 has been closed after a lorry overturned amid a heavy snow storm.

Emergency services were called to the southbound carriageway of the motorway at Junction 12 near Uddington at around 4.30am.

It came after a crash involving two lorries during the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Officers remain at the scene and a significant road closure remains in place between Junction 12 and 11.

Google Maps shows a nine-mile stretch of the M74 southbound that has been shut while attempts are made to clear the wreckage.

The extent of injuries remains unclear, but they are believed to be non life-threatening.

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland told the Daily Record: “We received reports of a crash involving two lorries at around 4.30am at junction 12 of the M74.

“Emergency services were called to the scene and the road between junction 12 and junction 11 southbound has been closed.

“Information on injuries is unclear - they are believed to be non life-threatening.”
