Nine men could face jail for part in huge bar brawl in Headingley

Nine men have been told they could be jailed after they admitted taking part in a mass brawl at a bar in Headingley.

The men, who are aged between 20 and 27, all pleaded guilty to affray at Leeds Crown Court on Thursday, March 21.

They all got involved in a fight which erupted in The Arc, in the early hours of Saturday, February 17 last year.

Around 20 people were caught up in the violent scenes which saw chairs and glasses thrown around the bar, which is now called Manahatta.

A 28-year-old man suffered a nasty gash to the back of his head and had to be pulled to safety by the barman. He was later treated at hospital for the injury.

CCTV footage of the fight was shared thousands of times, after West Yorkshire Police released it as part of an appeal for witnesses.

The men have all been released on bail and are due to be sentenced at the same court in May.

Judge Batty told the men: "You will receive credit for these pleas of guilty. I can't sentence you today, this is going to take some time.

'Custody will be at the front of the court's mind'

"It (the sentencing hearing) is going to begin on May 30. It will take at least two days and you can have your bail in the mean time."

He added: "Custody will be at the very front of the court's mind for public violence of this matter, do you understand that?

"Do not rule out custody."

Another 12 men, who were also involved, appeared in court today and have been committed for sentencing at the same court on May 30, after entering guilty pleas.

They are Lewis Bond, 21, Dalian Cash, 24, Robert Ives, 23, Michael McDonagh, 26, Louis McShane, 25, George Milner, 25, Michael Roberts, 29, Jordan Smith, 23, Thomas Walker, 25, and Jamie Wild, 22, Christopher Booth, 43 and Matthew Wild, 23.
