Nine Manchester United legends nominated to join Premier League Hall of Fame

Nine Manchester United legends have been nominated to join the Premier League Hall of Fame class 2021.

The Premier League launched their Hall of Fame this week to honour players who have helped make the division into what it is today, with the league's record goal scorer Alan Shearer and Arsenal icon Thierry Henry named as inaugural inductees.

However, they won't be alone for long as six more former players will be joining them in this year's class and a shortlist of 23 nominees has been confirmed.

United dominate the list with David Beckham, Eric Cantona, Andrew Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane, Peter Schmeichel, Paul Scholes, Robin van Persie and Nemanja Vidic all vying for a place in the hall of fame, which will be the highest individual honour awarded to players by the Premier League.

Arsenal greats Tony Adams, Dennis Bergkamp, Sol Campbell, Patrick Vieira and Ian Wright have been nominated as well as Liverpool trio Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and Robbie Fowler.

Chelsea have four representatives on the list with Ashley Cole, Didier Drogba, Frank Lampard and John Terry all making the cut, while there were also nominations for Les Ferdinand and Matt Le Tissier.

United's all-time top goalscorer Wayne Rooney would appear to be a glaring omission from the short-list but only players who had retired by August 1, 2020, were eligible for selection - ruling Rooney out of the running.

The six inductees to make the Hall of Fame will be decided by a combination of votes from the Premier League Awards Panel and the public vote. You can select the six players you want to see inducted here.
