Nine incredibly fun things for kids to do in and around Bristol this October

October can often be one of the wettest months and there's only so long you can spend splashing about in parks.

So if you're hunting for fun things to keep your little ones entertained, there's lots of excitement still to be had.

And to make sure you don't miss out, we've complied a helpful list.

Here's what's happening for kids in and around Bristol....

Pumpkin picking, Avon Valley Farm

Little ones are given the chance to pick their own pumpkin and take home their fruit ready to carve for halloween.

The attraction has more than 15,000 to pick from and have wheelbarrows at the ready for the bigger pumpkins of the harvest.

When? From October 5 to 31.

Ashton Court miniature railway

Showcasing a range of real steam, electric and petrol driven trains, this mini railway offers hours of entertainment for kids.

Bristol Model Engineers plan to host two sessions throughout September at their site at the top of Ashton Court.

When?  October 13.

Aftermirth: Wardrobe Theatre

This adult comedy club allows parent to bring their baby along so they can enjoy three circuit comedians delivering their usual club routines, so the material is mature and sweary with the odd birth story flashback.

The special afternoon gig has reduced amplification and a dimmed room.

Apple Day at Boiling Wells, St Werburghs

This annual event see families welcome the autumn with specially-themed activities including live music, face painting, kids crafts and food.

When? October 19 from noon.

Marty MacDonald's Toy Machine, Redgrave Theatre

Billed as a fun, musical, interactive adventure, this show follows Marty, Sally the Scarecrow, Pongo the Pig, Molly-Moo the Cow and Sheena the Sheep as they try to repair a broken machine which makes toys.

The play will last 80 minutes but does include an interval.

When? October 20, at 2pm.

Woodland Tribe, Windmill Hill Farm

Taking the best ideas from adventure playgrounds around the world, this event allows kids to use hammers, nails and saws, build dens, be creative with natural materials, and play freely with nature.

Aimed at children aged six plus, all kids have to be accompanied by an adult throughout the two-hour sessions.

When? October 28 sessions 10am-12pm / 12-2pm / 2-4pm

Halloween fun at Puxton Park

From spooky discos to special fancy dress, there's lots going on at this attraction to mark the ghoulish festival.

There will also be comedy shows and creepy critters sessions throughout the week of celebrations.

When? October 28 to November 1.

Sticky Ends - The Spooky Edition, Creative Workspace

During this one day event, children are treated to some spooky Halloween stories and songs before being given the chance to take part in a workshop with the actors.

There will also be games to help kids discover the story for themselves.

When? October 30 at various times.

Autumn discoveries at the Wild Place

Kids are tasked with finding creepy crawlies or climbing up the attraction's huge spider web during this half term event.

There will also be some crafty sessions where children can get creative with leaves, pinecones and mud.
