Nine charged over stabbing death of woman in Toowoomba

The woman was taken to Toowoomba Base Hospital but later died.

Three men and six women have been charged over the stabbing death of a 37-year-old woman in Toowoomba on Queensland's Darling Downs.

Detectives charged the nine people after the woman was found with stab wounds to the chest in a unit on McGregor Street in Wilsonton after 2:00pm on Sunday.

The woman was taken to Toowoomba Base Hospital but later died.

Officers cordoned off several areas near the crime scene, including near a fast food restaurant on the Warrego Highway.

The nine people, aged between 23 and 34, have each been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and one count of entering a dwelling with intent.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Legal Service lawyer Kevin Rose said all of the nine cases were mentioned in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court today, but no-one appeared.

There was no application for bail.

The nine accused have been remanded to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Outside the court, Mr Rose said he was representing five of the charged people.

He said he would speak to his clients later today and there was a possibility more charges would be laid.

"I haven't been told that, but given that there is one deceased person there is the possibility — that's what I understand the police are saying," he said.

Mr Rose said this morning's hearings were brief.

"Quite quick, just adjourned until tomorrow with no bail application," he said.

Toowoomba resident Kevina Suey who attended court said the incident had shocked the local Indigenous community.

"The whole community is shattered — everybody knows everybody," she said.

"I'm just here [in court] to support — just praying for everybody — for all the families."
