Nine adorable dogs looking for new homes near Manchester

New Year is a time for making a positive difference, and what better way to change your life than by giving a shelter dog a loving forever home.

Dogs Trust Manchester , which is part of the UK’s largest dog welfare charity Dogs Trust, is home to a number of lovely pups searching for families in Manchester and beyond.

TeamDogs , our sister site for pet parents and dog lovers, has rounded up nine furry friends that would love to be adopted.

And from 17-month-old Greyhound puppy Tux to 12-year-old Shepherd cross Zoe or quirky Pudge the Pug cross, there’s dogs of all ages, personalities and sizes to choose from - can you help?

Here are nine lovely dogs that are searching for homes:

Mila

Mila is a two-year-old Boxer looking for a home in or near the Manchester area. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

Gorgeous Mila, a two-year-old Boxer, is one of the adorable residents at Dogs Trust Manchester currently waiting for her forever family.

She is described as ‘super sweet’, ‘super clever’ and ‘super excited’ when it comes to seeing her favourite people.

According to Dogs Trust Manchester’s website, she’s keen for a home that will help bring out ‘silly, goofy side’.

The statement explains: “Mila is a gentle soul to start off with who can be a little nervous of new people, but with some food and toys, she quickly comes out of her shell and loves to zoom around off-lead and lean into you for a gentle fuss.

“Once she trusts you, her affectionate side comes out and she will happily lie beside you for some cuddles and jump up for more!

“She doesn't just wag her tail, her whole body wiggles with excitement.”

The lovely and active young lady is also a fan of food, as well as going on adventures.

Due to under-socialisation, Mila can be reactive around other dogs and should be in a home with no other dogs, cats or small furries.

As she can be nervous around new people, she’s best suited to a household with minimal visitors and no children under 16 years.

Mila also requires a private, secure garden with no neighbouring dogs, where she can relax and zoom around with her toys, with access to quiet dog walking routes nearby.

However, as Mila has no problem jumping in the car, the shelter is happy to consider applicants who would need to travel to walk her.

Dogs Trust Manchester has been working with Mila to build her confidence around other pups and found her to be responsive to it - so far she’s managed some ‘lovely lead walks’ and ‘nice sniffs’.

Bram

Bram is one of more than twenty residents at Dogs Trust Manchester currently looking for a forever home. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

Brilliant Bram is a two-year-old Malinois cross with ‘bags of potential’, who is looking for an adult-only home.

A statement from Dogs Trust Manchester about sweet lad reads: “This super boy is so clever and loves to learn new things to add to his repertoire.

“Bram is also the best adventure buddy you can ever hope for and loves nothing more than to get in the car (where he settles brilliantly) and go on a nice long hike for a few hours in the hills or having a nice swim in a river.

“Along with his adventurous personality, he also has a very sweet side and adores human attention on his terms at a pace he's comfortable with.

It adds: “Bram will definitely make the perfect companion for someone looking for a real project dog, who has the time and patience to carry out the training he requires, and the reward will definitely be worth it.”

Due to his love of excursions and activities, the lovely crossbreed needs adoptive parents who can provide him with two to three hours of exercise per day.

Bram’s adopters will also need to be patient with him, particularly when working on his separation issues and tendency to ‘mouth’.

Though he loves other dogs, he can be rather boisterous, so he’s best as the only pet in the home.

As for his new home, Bram would love a private, large secure garden with constant outside access, along with some type of outdoor shelter or kennel so he can stay outside for as long as he pleases, and a non-open plan indoor space so that he can be separated if he starts to mouth.

Apache

Apache is searching for a forever family in or around Manchester. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

Apache is a six-year-old Siberian Husky currently housed at Dogs Trust Manchester.

A big fan of muddy puddles and tennis balls, the handsome boy is said to have a playful, cheeky character that can’t help making his handlers smile.

Though Apache will need some patience to establish a bond, ‘tasty treats’ should win his heart in no time.

His bio adds: “Like a typical husky, Apache loves being outdoors exploring and sniffing and he would love an equally active home that can take him on adventures of hiking in the hills.”

He’s hoping for a decent-sized private garden with 6ft solid fencing where he can relax and play to his heart's content, plus a maximum of two people in the house and minimum visitors.

As for owners, knowledge of Huskies is essential, with breed experience preferable.

Tux

17-month-old puppy Tux is searching for his forever home. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

New dog on the block Tux is a recent addition to the Dogs Trust Manchester shelter.

Only 17 months old, the lovely Greyhound has tons of character, plus a ‘constant waggy tail’.

According to Dogs Trust Manchester, he loves to be in the company of people, and enjoys saying hello to other friendly dogs when out and about.

He’s also described as a playful lad who likes toys, adventures and a ‘true Greyhound style’ zoom followed by a snuggle.

Prospective new owners will need a private secure garden with minimum 6ft fencing.

He doesn’t like to share resources with other dogs, so should be the only pet, but he can live with children aged 11 or more.

As the gorgeous boy has lived most of his life in kennels, Tux will likely require some further basic training, as well as dog socialisation and touch-to-hand or clicker training.

He would also need to get used to being left alone at home, slowly and positively.

Lily

Senior lady Lily is a resident at Dogs Trust Manchester. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

Mancunians looking for a loyal four-legged friend will love Lily, a 10-year-old Chihuahua cross who enjoys cuddles and pottering around.

According to the Dogs Trust Manchester website, the gorgeous brown-eyed dog is sweet, sensitive and sure to make a ‘lovely companion’.

The statement adds: “She can take some time to get to know you but once she is comfortable she is happy to come over for a gentle fuss.”

Lily is keen for a quiet home for her retirement, so any children in the household will need to be aged 16 or over, and there should be no other pets.

She can get a little nervous of new people, so minimal visitors and no visiting children is also a must.

A private secure garden where she can build her confidence is ideal.

Pudge

Pudge the Pug is searching for his forever family in or around Manchester. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

Jack Russell Pug Cross Pudge, six, is a quirky boy with a big heart.

According to the team at Dogs Trust Manchester, the sweet chap enjoys nothing more than being out and about with people, and has great fun using his nose.

They added: “He enjoys spending time with people and will happily snuggle up beside you after all those adventures.

“Pudge also enjoys running after a tennis ball and having some tasty treats - he takes them really nicely and will sit politely waiting.”

The adorable little dude would love a private garden, no other doggy companions in the house, and access to quiet walks.

He’d love his family to be home as much as possible so he isn’t lonely, at least initially.

He can live with children aged 14 or more, but not any other pets.

Prospective mums or dads to Pudge should be aware that the gorgeous boy has some ongoing medical issues, which can be discussed in detail on submission of an adoption application. .

Winter

Winter is one of several dogs hoping to find a forever home in or near Manchester. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

Eight-year-old Winter is a Husky Malamute Cross and ‘firm favourite’ at Dogs Trust Manchester.

Fun as well as beautiful, the lovely boy is said to make a great companion thanks to his brilliant personality, as well as love of exploring, chasing after toys and having a ‘good potter’.

The statement from Dogs Trust Manchester on his webpage adds: “He can be affectionate and does a little tip tap dance when he knows he's going out for a walk, he loves to sit with you having a fuss and will run after you for a play if you encourage.

“Winter also loves his food which is going to be great motivation for teaching him new things.”

He can live with children aged 14 or above as long as they let him have time to himself to snooze but would rather not live with other dogs.

Zoe

12-year-old Zoe loves a snooze, but also playtime. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

Shepherd cross Zoe is a gorgeous senior lady who’s looking for a forever family to adore her.

As well as adorably pointy ears, the lovely crossbreed has a chilled out personality

And despite being 12 years old, she still loves to run after tennis balls - though she does also enjoy a relaxed cuddle on the sofa.

The team at Dogs Trust Manchester added: “We have limited history on Zoe's background however she has spent some time in a foster home and has been an absolute delight to have.

Zoe has met a few dogs here at the centre and is happy to have a friendly sniff with most but then is happy to just go off and do her own thing.”

She’s keen to be in a household with more than one person so that she can maximise cuddles and minimise time alone.

Anyone children should be 16 or older.

Her confidence being left alone can be built up gradually, though it should be at her own pace.

She would suit a home that isn't on a busy road and quieter walks initially, as heavy traffic can worry her.

Ella

Rottweiler Ella is searching for her forever home at Dogs Trust Manchester. (Dogs Trust Manchester)

Rottie fans looking for a new companion are in luck with Ella, a beautiful five-year-old Rottweiler who is looking for love.

Described as a ‘very foody girl’, the lovely girl will happily show off her ‘paw’ or other tricks for a tasty treat.

She also loves fetching soft toys or playing tuggy - and according to the Dogs Trust Manchester, she’s quite a ‘vocal player’.

The team added: “Ella can take some time to know and be worried by overhandling, but does enjoy a gentle fuss once she knows you and will sit nicely to give you her paw.

“Ella enjoys going on her walks and is always excited to go out.”

That said, her new owners will need to manage her walks to make sure she isn’t overly active as she does have some hip and leg issues.

It’s also best to walk her low dog areas, as she can be reactive around other pups, as well as keep her away from busy roads, which can worry her.

For these reasons, prospective parents need to have Rottweiler experience and an adult-only home with a private, secure garden for lovely Ella to play in, plus minimal visitors.
