Nina Wadia says she's 'gutted' to leave Strictly in first interview after shock exit furore

Actress Nina Wadia has given her first interview since her shock elimination alongside professional dance partner Neil Jones on Sunday night's Strictly Come Dancing.

After their tango to Would I Lie To You? by Eurhythmics, Nina and Neil found themselves in the bottom two in the first results show against former Coronation Street actress Katie McGlynn and Gorka Marquez who performed a jive to Good 4 by Olivia Rodrigo.

Sadly it was the end of the line for Nina and Neil’s Strictly journey as they became the first couple to leave the competition.

There was a furore afterwards on social media with fans saying it wasn't her time to leave the dancefloor and insisting she had so much more to give.

And Nina, speaking with host Rylan on the spin-off show Strictly - It Takes Two, agrees.

“I was gutted for sure. I had so much more to give and I wanted to spend so much more time with Neil - more than my husband!" she joked.

Neil added, “She worked really hard at it. At the beginning of the week Nina started falling in love with the dance and it’s just one of those things that can happen to anyone.

"It’s easy to just go wrong slightly but still, it was such a great performance."

When looking back at her best bits, former EastEnders star Nina fondly remarked, “Strictly has been possibly the most satisfying thing I’ve done in my 32 year career – I loved it.”

Former Strictly contestant Chizzy Akudolu tweeted about her exit: "Nina had so much promise. I’m not a happy bunny."

Another fan tweeted: "Totally wrong decision as Nina had a lot more to give!"

And another fumed: "WTF NEIL is the best dancer of them Alllll!!! and has actually made Nina great! They were the best couple."

The judges’ scores this week were added to those from last week, and were then combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest scoring two couples facing the dance off.

Head Judge Shirley Ballas ended up with the deciding vote over which couple would stay in the competition and decided to save Katie and Gorka.

Strictly - It Takes Two continues every weeknight at 6.30pm on BBC Two and Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday and Sunday nig hts on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
