The granddaughter of legendary jazz singer Nina Simone has slammed US Vice President Kamala Harris for taking star’s royalties and estate.
ReAnna Simone Kelly took an angry potshot at the high-profile White House official for when she was California’s Attorney General.
And she accused the VP of handing over Nina’s estate to “white people” after publicly showing support for Chloe Bailey’s performance of the late singer’s classic Feeling Good track.
“Nina's granddaughter here,” tweeted RéAnna. “My family doesn't run her estate anymore.
“It was taken away from us & given to white people. Our family name was DRAGGED in the media.”
RéAnna raged: “We get NO royalties, nothing. Wanna hold someone accountable? Ask Kamala Harris why she came for my family.”
Music legend Nina died in 2003 and her estate and charitable trust was left to her daughter Lisa Simone Kelly, who was made the administrator.
But a decade later, Lisa was accused of syphoning a whopping $2million from the estate and trust into her own bank account.
Kamala was then the serving AG of California and oversaw the high-profile legal case against Lisa.
Lisa was subsequently forced to relinquish the rights to the estate and trust after she was found guilty of being in the wrong.
Kamala sought to collect a surcharge of $5.93million and $2.5million in interest from Lisa, but the state of California came to an agreement over the payback.
But after reaching terms to an agreement, Kelly was forced to give up her role as estate administrator and had to withdraw any claims to her mother’s royalties and intellectual property, according to the Daily Beast.
RéAnna blames Harris for her mum losing control of the estate and the trust.
“My grandmother is influencing the masses (as she should!!). I see her on billboards. I see artists covering her music.
“It breaks my heart to know that white people are making money off of grandmas hard work and that we have had all of our rights as her family STRIPPED from us!!'
“Grandma was unapologetically herself,” added RéAnna.
“She was a muhhhf**kin badass woman who did what she wanted when she wanted. She was a sexual woman and she expressed that.”
