Yokozuna Hakuho continued his winning start on day 2 of the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament in Osaka, while fellow yokozuna Kakuryu bounced back from a shock defeat on the opening day.
Hakuho (2-0) held off a spirited challenge from No. 1 maegashira Endo (0-2), who did well to keep his balance after losing his grip and nearly falling out of the ring. The yokozuna clinched his second victory with a deft pivot and shove that sent his opponent stumbling out of bounds.
Kakuryu (1-1) made swift work of No. 1 maegashira Kaisei (0-2) to recover from a disappointing opening day loss. The five-time makuuchi division champion secured a strong grip on Kaisei's belt, allowing him to easily push his opponent out of the ring.
Kakuryu maintained his perfect record against the Brazilian, notching his 15th win in as many bouts.
Both yokozuna are looking for strong showings after bowing out of the New Year Grand Sumo Tournament with injuries.
In other action, ozekis Goeido and Takayasu both improved to 2-0, while sekiwake Tamawashi (1-1) picked up his first loss since winning the New Year basho in January.
Ozeki Tochinoshin (1-1) also lost his first bout of the tournament.
