Nile Rodgers 'to replace' Robbie Williams on The X Factor as judge jets to South America

Nile Rodgers is reportedly set to replace Robbie Williams on The X Factor this weekend when he jets off to South America.

Williams, who is mentoring the Groups category, will miss Sunday’s show due to tour commitments in Chile, leaving Rodgers with the all-important sing-off vote.

Reports in The Sun claim that Williams was due to miss Saturday night as well but ITV will now pre-record the show before the judge catches his flight.

A source told the publication: “The show will air ‘as live’ in its usual slot. Nile is a music legend so viewers will be in for a treat.”

Standard Online has contacted ITV and The X Factor for comment.

Chic star Rodgers, 66, has already appeared as a guest judge on the show during Judges’ Houses where he joined Louis Tomlinson, alongside Liam Payne, to help pick the final four boys.

Williams revealed in September that he was “genuinely gutted” to be missing some of the live shows during his first year on the panel.

He told ITV’s Lorraine show: “I’m gutted that I’ve got to go. Genuinely, genuinely gutted that I’ve got to go. It was all booked in before. I’m going to go off and do a few gigs in South America.

“I’m looking forward to going down there because I haven’t been there forever, but if I’d have known it wouldn’t be happening, put it that way. I’m going to miss the show.”

It was originally reported that Williams was set to be replaced by former judge Sharon Osbourne, but the star later announced that she “didn’t feel she was needed” .

The X Factor is on ITV, Saturday at 8.35pm
