Nil by Mouth are helping to tackle bigotry in West Lothian

Hundreds of people from across West Lothian will join the battle against bigotry next month.

Anti-sectarian charity Nil by Mouth are delivering an action week across the county from September 9 to 15.

They will deliver workshops, presentations, training, activities and a special all-day event with pupils from Broxburn High School.

There will be stalls at West Lothian College and Nil by Mouth are offering a penalty kick challenge to primary schools, where pupils can win a trip to see Scotland play at Hampden Park.

The charity has been very active in West Lothian in recent years, working with schools in Armadale, Livingston, Bathgate and Whitburn.

Director Dave Scott said: “We’ve been delighted by the response from across West Lothian to our action week and it’s great to see employers and educational establishments recognise the importance of ensuring everyone feels valued and safe in their environment.

“Sectarianism is still a problem for Scottish society but it is a battle we are winning and we have nothing to fear from taking honestly about the problem.

“We still have a few slots for primary schools to take part in the penalty kick challenge and there is still time to sign up.”

The programme is being funded by the Scottish Government community safety unit.

Nil by Mouth was set up by Glasgow teenager Cara Henderson after her friend Mark Scott was murdered as he made his way home from a football match in 1995.
