Nikola Katic can be recalled from his loan by Rangers in January.
The Croatian has joined Hajduk Split until the end of the season, but Steven Gerrard has the option of bringing the defender back to Ibrox if he needs to bolster his back line.
Split can also send him back to Glasgow during the next transfer window if things aren’t working out, according to sporting director Mindaugas Nikolicious.
However, if Katic impresses, there is an option to buy at the end of the season.
Rangers want the 24-year-old to play regularly in order to get back up to speed after coming back from a lengthy lay-off due to a serious knee injury.
And Nikolicious was only too happy to give Katic the opportunity in Split, beating off competition from other clubs to secure the Croatia international.
"The contract is a loan with the offer of a recall,” he confirmed. “We can do the same, that's the way these things happen in loan deals like this.
"Nikola had other offers. He is a big signing for Hajduk. A great defender who can get his way into the national team if he plays well for us and returns to the level he was at when he was with Rangers.
"He is feeling good and is fully fit. He has been in full training for several months already.
"I think our fans will love him."
