Nikola Katic transfer latest as Rangers defender 'interesting' to Ligue 1 side Dijon

Rangers defender Nikola Katic is the subject of transfer interest from Ligue 1 side Dijon, according to reports in France.

Stephan Jobard's outfit finished three points outside the relegation places last term to cement a fifth successive season in the top flight and are looking to strengthen their centre of defence.

And Katic, who has starred in the Europa League for the Ibrox men is said to be on their radar.

The 23-year-old arrived in Glasgow in 2018 from Slaven Belupo for a fee of £1.5m and, despite the odd blip, has become a fans favourite for his wholehearted performances in Light Blue.

With Filip Helander returning from injury and Connor Goldson the club's defensive leader, Steven Gerrard may be looking to cash in on his young star.

While the Croat has impressed he also has a tendency towards impetuosity and his desire to win every ball can leave his teammates exposed.

Katic has three years remaining on his current deal after signing an extension at the start of the campaign and would be unlikely to leave on the cheap.

Despite that Sportklub, citing reports in France, state that Dijon are keen to bring him to Ligue 1.

With George Edmundson the only other central defender at Rangers, any deal to let Katic depart would surely see Gerrard move to add a player to his roster.
