Nikola Katic shocked at Rangers exit claims as defender targets Ibrox stay

Rangers defender Niko Katic has been left shocked at claims he has been told to leave the club.

The centre back has just returned from a bad knee injury and it was suggested his agent was instructed to find him a new club.

But Glasgow Live Sports understands this is news to Katic and he will continue to work on his bid to return to full fitness.

The Croatian defender has played just 45 minutes of first team football since returning, in a pre-season friendly with Brighton.

He also got 70 minutes under his belt in the B team’s win over Dumbarton in the SPFL Trust Trophy in midweek.

And he’s focused on getting himself back involved with Steven Gerrard’s first team and isn’t interested in leaving the club.

Katic’s agent was in Scotland last week and is now looking for answers over where the claims have come from with both he and the player confused over suggestions he was told to leave.

Katic feels he still has a future at Rangers and the 24-year-old has no immediate interest in leaving Ibrox on a permanent deal in this window.

A source close to the player said: "It's true that Niko's agent was in Glasgow last week for talks with the club but at no point did the conversation turn to him being surplus to requirements at Ibrox."
