Nikola Katic 'set for' Rangers exit as defender told his Ibrox career is over despite injury recovery

Rangers defender Nikola Katic has reportedly been told he has no future at the club, with the Croat to be sold before the end of the transfer window.

The centre-back missed the whole of last season after suffering a knee injury in training and could only watch on as his team-mates lifted the Premiership title.

Katic has returned to action and played 70 minutes against Dumbarton for the B team this week.

However, the Scottish Sun reports that he's not in the plans of manager Steven Gerrard and will be sold before the end of the transfer window.

Katic has fallen behind Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun and Jack Simpson in the pecking order, and is said to have been told his Rangers career is over.

Katic joined on a four-year deal from Slaven Belupo in 2018, and signed an extension in 2019 that has him tied down for a further two years.

But it appears he will be sold without playing for the first team again.

Katic said after recovering from his injury hell: "I lost 12 months playing with my injury and now I am so desperate to play and so excited.

“I’m giving everything 24 hours per day to be as ready as possible to help the team and to prove to the manager and fans how ready I am.”
